I would assume that if they bought the company, they'd get the IPs as well.

That said, there's no way they'll become billionares any time soon.

Maybe they can buy the Warcraft license once this shit is over.

It depends if their goal is only to make as much money as possible. I don't know the guy IRL but Morhaime always seemed like a decent guy. Could be that he just wants to create awesome gaming experiences and he already made enough money with Blizzard to be set for life. Maybe money is not his motivation but we'll have to wait and see.

It's not worth it. Just build something on its own and if it stands you won't need the name recongizition of Blizzard. Make good games and gamers will buy. Investors will invest (it will get to this point) and the cycle continues as it will slowly corrupt and go to shit. But we are talking a decade or more if it even gets there. Just enjoy it when it lasts and live in the moment.

What makes people think that even if theoretically Dreamhaven buys WoW or Blizzard the company would become better?

Blizzard was originally bought by Vivendi(sp) back in either the 90s or early 2000s when things were quite different than they are today. Vivendi was pretty hands off and let them do what they thought best. The problems started when WoW was super successful and it attracted Activision to acquire Blizzard from Vivendi.

I don't know why they would. What aspect of "Blizzard" would they want? I'm not sure the income generated by WoW and Hearthstone would be worth the cost to buy them as the income decreases overtime, and the other game licenses probably dont make enough money to be worth buying.

The thing at Blizzard that has real value is the talent, probably, but you could poach employees without buying the company and game licenses.

Seems better off they should just make new games than waste money trying to get control of old ones.

I don't think, Morhime and his crew want have anything from thier former corporation. I rather say they will go with thier own stuff. Unless nostalgia will hit them, and will probably try buy Lost Vikings. But only Lost Vikings, rest may rot for them, like SC2.

With what money? Blizzard is worth billions...

No, and nor should they. The people left at bliz are exactly where they belong.

Then people would be complaining that they didn´t expand.

There is no way to know what is a good move or a bad move on this terms until you find out.
It was a good move from the very early start, but it soon went downwards indeed.

Blizzard right now feels like a football team that won a big championship 10 years ago and the fans still have huge expectations of them even though all players and most of the staff aren't the same

People shouldn't either have big faith in Dreamheaven as well. Yeah Morhime is big name in gaming industry, but until they don't show anything i would stop with hype. In paper Dreamheaven plans for games can be good, but in reality might be same microtransaction hell as well.

Not very likely, WoW is still very much lucrative and Activision won't separate that easily.

They have no need whatsoever. They just can hire/recruit/headhunt necessary people from Blizzard and that's it. There is no point whatsoever to buy a giant company. I'll hope that Dreamhaven will release some info next year about the game projects. Like about the genres they're working on. First game perhaps 2025?

This is possibly a perfect storm to go public and raise money by selling shares of the company. Roblox is thinking it can go public and rake in $8 billion today.

Let's say Dreamhaven went public and collected $8 billion. That's a staggering number. But let's just run with it. Unfortunately, Blizzard's estimated value is $20 billion. And then you'd have to sweeten the pot to Activision (even if they wished to sell it). So think more like $30 billion.

They would be better off just making their own IPs.

However, I would question Dreamhaven's leadership if they didn't go public and grab that cash in today's environment. They might never have a more favorable market for video game stock.
Mike Morhaime isnt a a big name when it comes to investors.

What he did, business wise, wiith Blizzard wasnt smart. The people at dreamhaven are the people who sunk wow to what it iis now, not the people who made it origiinally.

Also he doesnt have a "legion" of ex blizard employees. its a relatively small firm for now

There are thousands of companies like that. Literally. If not hundreds of thousands. There have been only one blizzard.

Think about that before you start getting high hopes for dreamhaven.

Why would they? Blizzard's reputation has long been dragged through the dirt with corporate greed riding atop its once good name.

He's better off starting anew with the fact he has a number of the old crew on board.

Neither will they have the money nor would activision or blizz want that.
