This is sad... and potentially dangerous.
If even the courts are so openly corrupt that all hope for justice is lost, people at some point will tend to other methods.
Until now there was still hope in voting. But if the voter suppression increases, this may at some point be not enough anymore and when the fascists manage to break democracy, the country will break.

As far right militants were violently breaking into the Capitol on January 6, 2021, the Secret Service received news of a threat waged against Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (New York), one of the top Democrats in Congress — and evidently waited over an hour to pass it on to Capitol Police.

In a report published on Tuesday, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) says that the Secret Service received a voicemail with a shooting threat against Schumer at around 4 pm D.C. time, forwarded by an editor for far right publication Newsmax. Documents obtained by CREW show that the Secret Service held onto this information for over an hour before sending it to Capitol Police, despite evidence that the agency saw the message shortly after it was received.

This was a crucial time during the attack, when minutes mattered. Around that time, the Donald Trump militants were roaming the halls of the Capitol and had breached the Senate floor and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-California) office. Just about 15 minutes after the voicemail was sent, Trump posted a video to Twitter repeating the lies about the election that had served as inspiration for the attack to begin with.

Eyo do we need to do some denazification in the USSS or some shit? I mean, I don't think they're actually Nazi's, just using the phrase, but it seems increasingly clear that in addition to there being internal problems around competency that first started showing during Obama's term, that many members of the USSS may be compromised and no longer doing their duties as instructed. We saw it with the apparent dishonesty around the traffic accident while they were transporting Harris somewhat recently, as well as the text messages that "mysteriously" disappeared and were not backed up when transitioning phones.

I'm all for updating compensation and training etc. to allow for USSS agents to receive higher salaries in order to improve recruitment efforts both to get better quality recruits, and more of them so that there are fewer staffing related issues. But this is deeply concerning that this kind of shit keeps happening, or we keep learning about it having happened recently.

CREW previously uncovered that the Secret Service had also sat on a threat to Pelosi. In the days leading up to the attack, an account on Parler had made threats toward Pelosi and Biden, placing Pelosi’s name on a list of “enemies” and saying on January 2, 2021, that “Biden will die shortly after being elected.”

According to internal emails obtained by CREW, the Secret Service was aware of these threats as early as January 4. Despite this, the agency didn’t send these messages to Capitol Police until January 6 at 5:55 pm, at which point much of the mob had been cleared out.
Because this isn't even the only apparently credible threat of the day against Democrats that they ignored until it was too late to do anything about it.

Oath Keeper lawyer: Showing Capitol riot video in court would unfairly associate defendant with 'crazy' people

An attorney representing indicted Oath Keeper Kelly Meggs on Tuesday objected showing jurors a video of the January 6th Capitol riots on the grounds that it would unfairly associate one of the defendants on trial with "crazy" people.

As reported by Bloomberg News' Zoe Tillman, attorney Juli Haller argued that it would be prejudicial to show jurors the Capitol riot video given that Oath Keeper Jessica Watkins, who is also on trial, is not seen in the video even though federal prosecutors allege that she is at the front of the crowd shoving against police near the Senate chamber.

"Haller argues it's prejudicial because the other people captured in the hallway are 'crazy' and the scene is 'quite disturbing,'" writes Tillman.

However, Judge Amit Mehta ruled that the government can show the video as part of its exhibits on the grounds that showing the crowd building up near the Senate chamber is relevant to the government's case that Watkins aided and abetted civil disorder.

Watkins and Meggs are two of the 11 members of the Oath Keepers militia who were charged earlier this year with seditious conspiracy for their roles in planning and participating in the January 6th Capitol riots.

The three defendants accused of helping to plot to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in Jackson were convicted of all charges Wednesday morning and taken into custody — ending a long, high-profile state terrorism trial that was part of a broader case which had mixed results in federal court.

Joe Morrison and his father-in-law, Pete Musico, who were not present in the courtroom and joined via video conferencing, and Paul Bellar, who was, seemed stunned.

It took the jury less than a day to find the trio guilty of providing support for a terrorist act, a 20-year felony, as members of the Wolverine Watchmen, which the jury also concluded was an illegal gang. The defendants also were convicted of using weapons during these crimes, which also is a felony.
So local right-wing terrorist-sympathizers and members of an illegal right-wing gang are going to prison for a while.

Protip: Don't plot to kidnap a governor, or take over a government building and kill government employees.

I mean, why do you think all of them were posting on social media about them raiding the capitol and were bragging about it? They thought they could get away with this all scot-free. They've lived a life generally free of consequence and any actual oppression and live in a bubble where they think everyone thinks like they do.

Surprised no one has posted about the insurrectionist that got 7.5 year prison sentence today for dragging the officer that has testified on capitol hill multiple times, Michael Fanone, into the crowd to get beaten by traitors to this country.

Albuquerque Head, yes that is this moron's name, 43, of Tennessee was sentenced to 90 months, 6 months shy of what prosecutors were requesting.

Head dragged Fanone into the mob on Jan. 6 while yelling “I got one!” Before that, he used a police shield to push against a line of police officers in the western-facing tunnel of the Capitol, where some of the most violent acts of the insurrection took place. He pleaded guilty to a felony charge of assaulting, resisting or impeding officers.

Former US Capitol Police officer Michael Riley was found guilty of obstruction on Friday for deleting his own Facebook message telling another user to remove portions of a post that person made about entering the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

But the jury in Washington, DC, couldn’t reach a verdict on a second obstruction count Riley faced for suggesting to the Facebook friend that he take down parts of his post, a move that federal prosecutors had alleged hampered their criminal investigation.

The judge declared a mistrial on the second charge.

“Hey Jacob, I’m a Capitol Police officer who agrees with your political stance,” Riley wrote to Facebook friend, Jacob Hiles, on January 7, 2021. “Take down the part about being in the building they are currently investigating and everyone who was in the building is going to be charges. Just looking out!”

After deliberating across four days, jurors told reporters they quickly agreed to convict on the one count, but there was one juror who would not convict on the other count. The holdout wasn’t sure about what Riley was thinking when he messaged Hiles.
So one insurrectionist sympathizer causes a mistrial on one charge, but otherwise a former Capitol police officer who decided he wanted to be an insurrectionist as well and engaged in obstruction is now convicted on one count of that charge.

The former officer faces up to 20 years behind bars, though sentencing guidelines would allow for a far lesser sentence.
Don't try to help insurrectionists cover up their crimes if you want to stay outta jail, kids.

Wanna know how people are being radicalized? Algorithms keeping them engaged on websites as they go down conspiracy theory rabbit holes and being terminally online.

Here's how watching 6+ hours of conspiracy theory videos a day turns someone into an extremist that stormed the Capitol.

These people are abso-fucking-lutely terminally online. Also, how the high of storming the Capitol because they thought they were doing something righteous wears off after the fact. It's like when you're really into some porn and you find some fucked up shit and it's only afterwards that you ask yourself what the fuck your horny ass brain did.

Except like, you know, this is IRL and people were hurt and killed and shit, not just someone at home watching some absolutely freaky shit.

Meadows legal challenge to attempt to stop the subpoena from the committee is tossed out by a judge for being a stupid waste of everyone's time -

“At the time it issued the subpoena to Meadows, the Select Committee had evidence that Meadows was in contact with President Trump on January 6th and participated in efforts to challenge the election results,” Nichols wrote.

“Meadows is therefore a proper subject of the Select Committee’s investigation, and the Court cannot say that the Committee’s demands for his testimony, documents, and cell phone records are irrelevant to its investigative task,” he added.
As with every other Republican he'll appeal, but I do wonder why Republicans are so fond of wasting so much money and court resources on fighting legal requests tooth and nail, every step of the way.

You know, other than them being guilty of all kinds of shit or having other information that would otherwise destroy their political careers.

A federal watchdog is accusing the Architect of the Capitol, who was appointed by former President Donald Trump, of ethics violations over an offer to provide tours to “patriots” weeks before the November 2020 election.

The inspector general with oversight over J. Brett Blanton, the Architect of the Capitol, found that one of his immediate family members offered private tours of the US Capitol in September 2020 while the building was closed due to Covid-19, according to a newly released report.

A post on social media included photos of Blanton and the family member from the dome of the Capitol with a comment stating: “This is happening!!!” and “All PATRIOTS welcome,” according to the report. That comment was later edited to read: “*Patriots=Americans who love America. Not a candidate,” the report said.

The inspector general also accused Blanton of abuse of government property and wasting taxpayer dollars by allowing his family to drive a government-owned vehicle and taking the vehicles on out-of-town trips to South Carolina and Florida, according to the report.

While serving on the US Capitol Police Board and overseeing the Capitol’s property management and operations, Blanton had access to three government-owned vehicles.

“The OIG identified a significant amount of administrative, ethical and policy violations as well as evidence of criminal violations throughout the investigation,” the report said. “Blanton’s actions have violated every pillar the OIG operates under including theft, fraud, waste and abuse against not only the AOC but also the taxpayer,” the report continued, referring to the acronym for the Architect of the Capitol.

The Office of the Inspector General referred the case to the US attorney’s office in Washington, DC, and the Eastern District of Virginia, and both offices declined charges. Inspector general investigators also have referred their findings to the IRS for potential tax violations and to congressional committees with oversight authority. Investigators wrote they intend to present the investigative findings and possible violations of law in Virginia to the Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney.

Blanton did not respond to CNN requests for comment.

Inspector general investigators wrote in the report that the probe into Blanton began in March 2021 when a private citizen reported a woman drove Blanton’s government-issued SUV recklessly by swerving out of a Walmart garage, driving 65 miles per hour in a 30 miles per hour zone, and making obscene gestures at another driver.

The investigation determined Blanton’s daughters had been driving and riding in the SUV, and further, that others had complained in the past.

“Additional evidence and testimony confirmed the AOC vehicles intended for [Home-To-Work] transportation by Blanton were consistently used as personal vehicles by both Blanton and his family for weekend trips to a craft brewery, out-of-town trips and general family use,” the report said.

Investigators also said Blanton allowed his daughters, their friends and a boyfriend to freely use one vehicle. According to the report, one of Blanton’s daughters told investigators she “had transported her friends and boyfriend in the vehicle and referred to using the AOC’s fuel as ‘free gas.’ “

In about a two-year period, Blanton’s vehicle racked up roughly 30,000 miles, though Blanton should, by policy, have only driven 10,000. This resulted in nearly $1,400 in wasted taxpayer funds, investigators found.

In one instance, investigators said Blanton drove a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee to a brewery in Leesburg, Virginia, and was involved in an accident, costing the Architect of the Capitol about $1,400. During the incident, Blanton claimed to be an “agent” and that the government would handle his insurance claim.

Blanton used the same Jeep to pursue a hit and run near his home after his daughter’s boyfriend’s car was struck. The police report obtained from that incident identified Blanton as an “off-duty DC police officer,” and the suspect in the incident claimed Blanton affirmed he was a law enforcement member.

Blanton’s role as Architect of the Capitol includes access to police information but does not grant him police powers.

Each vehicle Blanton used has an emergency equipment package, including law enforcement lights and sirens, a US Capitol Police radio and a satellite phone.

Despite his use of law enforcement-style vehicles, Blanton did not respond to the January 6, 2021, attack, the report noted.

Blanton may have intended to use more government funds inappropriately when he requested to remove a GPS tracking device from his vehicle and to replace the second-row captain’s chairs with a bench seat.

According to another family member, “This was at the request of his daughters to have more room for guests,” investigators wrote.
Architect of the Capitol accused of ethics violations by offering "patriots" tours of the building before Jan. 6. This comes from the OIG, not some rando.

Also, he was giving the keys to his government-owned vehicle that was for his personal use only to his kids, in violation of the rules for the use of the vehicle.

Donald Trump’s attorneys saw a direct appeal to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas as their best hope of derailing Joe Biden’s win in the 2020 presidential election, according to emails newly disclosed to congressional investigators.

We want to frame things so that Thomas could be the one to issue some sort of stay or other circuit justice opinion saying Georgia is in legitimate doubt,” Trump attorney Kenneth Chesebro wrote in a Dec. 31, 2020, email to Trump’s legal team. Chesebro contended that Thomas would be “our only chance to get a favorable judicial opinion by Jan. 6, which might hold up the Georgia count in Congress.”

I think I agree with this,” attorney John Eastman replied later that morning, suggesting that a favorable move by Thomas or other justices would “kick the Georgia legislature into gear” to help overturn the election results.
Reminder that Clarence Thomas is deeply ethically compromised and has no place on the SCOTUS.

SCOTUS backs slowly away from Arizona GOP.

So the Jan 6th panel wanted the phone records of the Arizonans...Arizonians? The Ariztocrats?...who willingly entered the fake elector plot to throw out a lawfully-held fair and fraud-free election, and just declare Trump the winner instead of the whiner. Lead amongst them is Kelli Ward, head of the AZ GOP. The Jan 6th panel subpoena'd her phone records, she expressed outrage, and the response was "probably shouldn't have signed your name on all that evidence of treason, bitch."

SCOTUS has refused to block the subpoena.

    "What was the vote?"

The brief order was unsigned, but conservative Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito indicated they would have granted the request for relief filed by Kelli Ward, the GOP chairwoman, and her husband.
While I find it possible the head of a state's political party could put together something like this on her own, I don't think she did so in a vacuum. The Jan 6th panel believes she coordinated with others -- and not only is conspiracy where things get ugly for them, it's also an even better route to getting to Trump than the Oath Keepers.

Big surprise: Ward is yelling "witch hunt". You don't get to commit a political crime, then claim the law enforcement for you breaking that law is political and therefore you should be let free. Of course it's politically motivated when you commit a political crime, it'd be strange if it wasn't. You attempted a coup, bitch, that was 100% political and these are the consequences.

We won't know for a while if the Wards' records are the smoking gun that ties Trump to the insurrection, but we will know shortly how much of her own party willingly aided her task of overthrowing democracy and installing a dictator. These people need to all lose their jobs and probably get some jail time for, and this is the minimum here, filing a false federal document.

The Wards have now lost every single case they've had to block the subpoena, and they are out of options. T-Mobile will hand the requested records over to the House and milliseconds later to the DOJ. The end.

A judge on Wednesday found a Texas man guilty on six charges for entering the Capitol and the Senate Chamber during the riot on Jan. 6, 2021, in tactical gear.

U.S. District Judge John D. Bates found Brock guilty on one felony charge of obstructing an official proceeding and five misdemeanor charges, including entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds as well as disorderly and disruptive conduct in a Capitol Building.

The Justice Department in a statement indicated Brock will be sentenced on Feb. 14, 2023. The felony charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and financial penalties.
Dude was caught breaking into Senate offices and looking through their paperwork. That's a "you go to jail for that shit" level felony.

Biden won’t be inaugurated. We will ensure that on the 6th

Wondering out loud here. A reason that the DOJ was moving slower than many thought reasonable was ...
    • Because they had to be sure there was no foreign involvement.
    • The reporting today of a foreign source for crypto currency transfers to the conspirators could be a big deal
    • Including Nick Fuentes
Far right was paid in crypto for Jan 6th attacks by a French computer guy
Payments in bitcoin worth more than $500,000 were made to 22 different virtual wallets, most of them belonging to far-right activists and internet personalities, before the storming of the U.S. Capitol, cryptocurrency compliance startup Chainalysis said on Friday.

The payments, made by a French donor, of 28.15 bitcoins were made on Dec. 8, the New York-based startup, specializing in countering money laundering and fraud in the digital currency space, said in a blog post.

Chainalysis said it now has evidence that many alt-right groups and personalities received large bitcoin donations as part of the single transaction.

Anyone who sympathizes with The Joker outside of the movie Joker and isn't an hardcore anarchist or a psychopath themselves needs help. He is the definition of someone who just wants to watch the world burn and doesn't care who goes down with it outside of Batman.

Joker isn't insane though. He is fully aware of what he does.
