I am expecting nothing. I bet he's not even actually worried about getting subpoena'd because he knows the Republicans who will be on the commission will vote in lock-step to protect their party in any and every way they can.

I believe the committee needs majority approval, yes. And this is a 50/50 split, so any vote will likely be deadlocked as far as I understand/assume.

They still need to vote it into existence. Imagine if McCarthy actually had to explain that phonecall with trump under oath. LOL.

It'd be nice, but I am not expecting anything. Especially with Republicans apparently having convinced themselves that they were in no risk, they weren't panicked and freaking out that day, people didn't die, police weren't assaulted, and the rioters bringing in zip ties and tactical gear were just friendly tourists.

We could be so lucky that their own unhinged, violent base turns on them and they lose office with a Democrat somehow winning with the fractured Republican base.

The bill would include an equal number of Democrats and Republicans, offering a chance to cap a lengthy negotiation between congressional leaders.
This is my understanding, that the commission/committee would be evenly split between the parties.

It is, but it does say this:
It also addresses another prior sticking point by allowing subpoenas when both the chair and vice chair of the commission agree or by vote of a majority of the commission’s members.
But I couldn't tell if the vice-chair would be a republican or not.

So it'll be like the 9/11 commission gave Al-Qaeda half the seats.

It’s just like the 9/11 commission, where it was a 5/5 split with republicans... which resulted in Bush testifying without being sworn in or transcribed... from home...

House GOP Whip Scalise announces Republicans WILL whip GOP Members to vote AGAINST the creation of a bipartisan National Commission to Investigate the January 6th Attack
Yes I understand someone posted and this is the discussion.

So yeah, this is asking the criminal to be on the jury and rule against that person with overwhelming evidence.

So the rules of Congress never thought of this scenario m, huh? Where the party of our two party system being implicated in an insurrection. Then again the one who likely has the most power and influence to incite, support an insurrection would be on the two political parties.

What does Q-shaman think of his fellow insurrectionists?

A lot of these defendants — and I’m going to use this colloquial term, perhaps disrespectfully — but they’re all fucking short-bus people,” Watkins said. “These are people with brain damage, they’re fucking retarded, they’re on the goddamn spectrum.
I have nothing further to add here.

Oh damn, yeah. Either way, quite the response there. Amused to see discussion of "short-bus people" in a federal trial.

they are really going to have their work cut out for them if they think having Asperger's makes someone that susceptible to manipulation. it is pretty desperate.

Honestly, it feels like he's trying to establish a "not guilty by way of insanity/diminished capacity" argument.

Fuck that. These asshats all knew exactly what they were doing. They did this because they're violent, shitty, abusive people, not because of mental illness or diminished capacity.

Kevin McCarthy backed 10 Benghazi investigations, the final of which he explicitly said was to hurt Hillary's presidential bid https://t.co/c1bLLUYM47

Capitol Police are not pleased with Republicans shitting up the planned Jan. 6 Commission.

Weird that the "pro-law enforcement" party isn't supporting the law enforcement officers who lost multiple colleagues due to the events of that day.

I mean, Republicans are just explicitly endorsing domestic terrorism now. The literal alternate reality hell they exist is boggles my mind, and I genuinely don't know how we can have a functional country when almost half the country and one of the two political parties lives in a literal fanfiction created in their own head.
I went to the Capitol in 2019. Taking a shit on the wall was an extra $30 ticket. Another $20 to sit on Nancy Pelosi's desk.

    Best $50 I ever spent.

Wrong, the BLM protests weren't trying to overturn an election they didn't like the outcome of. They also weren't trying to kill Mike Pence, or anyone else, like the Republicans were trying to do with AOC, Pelosi, and anyone else that wasn't supporting Trump and that were following the fucking constitution.

No, they just did billions of dollars of property damage across America, and were responsible for the deaths of dozens of people as a result of their rioting. This is why I'll never vote blue. I don't even consider myself a conservative, but the other option is unhinged zealotry and mass delusion.
