    COVID's impact on your?

What has your personal impact been from COVID? I have had a total of 9 friends who had it. Of those, 3 still have lingering damage caused by their infection. Then today was the funeral for one of my friends I've known for 27 years who was relatively healthy other than being a type 1 diabetic that was under control.

A few coworkers and their friends/family have had COVID. My boss had her mother pass from COVID-related complications. My mother's former boss passed due to COVID as well.

I knew none of these people personally and I have not been in the same room with a coworker in over a year. I did not wait for the official government shut down to start sheltering in place last March. I was like 3 weeks ahead of the curve and used vacation time, PTO, and state-granted sick days to chill-the-fuck-out.

My family has been a-ok thus far, thankfully.

I am both a cautious and intense personality. I don't fuck around with risk willy-nilly.

No direct family members have tested positive. So I don't have anyone directly connected to me that has died of Covid-19.
I have estimated I've saved almost $10K USD in driving, entertainment and food since we got sent home last March.

I've had some friends and coworkers catch it, thankfully all recovered eventually although some still experience symptoms of long covid
I was also sidelined a day and a half with side effects of my first vaccine dose (I work with at-risk people so qualified for the vaccine) which was unpleasant but certainly much better than catching covid (or giving it to anybody else) would have been

I have 2 friends that have reason to believe they had Covid early on in the pandemic(they were never tested). They had exposure to someone they later learned had been exposed and they displayed some symptoms (including the loss of taste and smell). To this day they still have issues with taste and smell... but luckily those seem to be the only lasting effects. The person they believe was the most likely source has recently been hospitalized for a serious of strokes that may be Covid related.

COVID has impacted members of my family.

Early last year I did research on how to spot a bad or worsening case of COVID incase someone I knew caught it. Especially since peoples level of oxygen can get dangerously low and their bodies did not show it.

After learning that I bought a blood oxygen level reader. That little buy saved the life of my mother law, grandmother in law, and uncle. They were able to get into the hospital before it was to late.

Doctors where happy we brought in our grandmother before it got too serious.

They told us most seniors get hospitalized when they are basically at deaths door.

My grandparents tested positive for it but they only had very minor symptoms which went away pretty quickly. About 15 of my family members and friends have claimed that they had Covid in the past but I'm skeptical because they never got very sick at any point and many Covid symptoms match symptoms from other issues. A few of them are kind of like paranoid hypochondriacs who think that they have every disease even though they're completely fine.

Beyond anxiety/worry when it first started and cults were fucking about? Haven't really had any impact on my life.

I was furloughed, the gf still has no job and I fueled up once in almost a year, with almost a full tank still left.

How long does gas last in a car? I drive only a couple of miles a week...

Sorry for your loss. I've been very fortunate so far and not lost anyone close to me or really lost much at all due to the pandemic.

Driving is fun though, how could you not drive anywhere for almost a year. I think gas has a 6 month expiration date so you'll want to clear it out of the system. You should find a good nature trail that is 50-100 miles away and drive there to get out of the house for a while and by the time you get back your old gas should be gone.

Got to teach from home from March-June, which was pretty much 0 expectations (students were told grades didn't matter, and teachers were told we only needed to hold office hours for 2 hours a day) and easy work. Have since bounced back from hybrid to full F2F to hybrid to full F2F and spend more time figuring out what the plan is than actually plan lessons. We are now full F2F so stability is back. School ran out of cleaning supplies so we like... don't do that anymore I guess.

Not much of an impact. I don't personally know anyone who's had it, I did most work from home before covid anyway so it's just been 100% from home since. I've been staying away from bars and clubs and not being able to travel has been a bit boring, but I hang out with friends just like normal. Wear a mask when I'm doing grocery shopping but that's about it.

I am feeling dizzy, and I also have a cold right now that is like it is with me for 2 month... im not sure if I actually have COVID or not...

Zero signs of coughing and lose of taste tho.

Lost my mom a month ago after not seeing her for months to protect her. Handful of coworkers had it, one lost a family member, too.

Had it, it was like a bad flu for about 3 days.

I can perfectly understand tho that it can wreck havoc on people with pre-existing conditions or in vulnerable age groups, I also understand you can get unlucky with it.

It ruined my social life, travel plans and I'm worried about my parents and grandparents as they live an ocean away.

Nevertheless, I am also really angry.

I am angry, disappointed and exhausted as I know that western governments across the board failed to tackle this issue seriously during the window they had to deal with, I am angry about the continuing mismanagement of the situation due to ideological and political bickering. We could have done a much better job with this, in Europe and in the US, we didn't due to the lack of political will, and very few if any politicians, pundits, hacks, business leaders will ever face any consequences for their roles on this fiasco.

Short term financial gain was prioritized over lives and long term economic stability. And I do not expect any systemic reform in the frenzied environment of the post Covid years.

I know all the above doesn't sound like "personal" but it is for me as the sense of anger and frustration is overwhelming.

    The every-day life changed quite drastically;
    1. gotta wear a mask everywhere i go
    2. the little bit of social life i had is pretty much gone;
    - due to lockdown beers once a week with colleagues have been put on hold (ok,... lately we've moved those to the office, but due to police-hour we have to be at home by 9pm which sucks)
    - teambuildings were also put on hold, which sucks
    - my free-time has suffered drastically; COVID had a very positive impact on the gambling industry, which means a shitload of work, but works quite favorably in terms of personal finances

I never caught COVID, not did anybody close to me (even the coworkers who had it had a very tame version)... so i can't complain about that.

I had to do this before the pandemic, though only to avoid scaring children
