Blizzcon they described the vault as this
“Let’s say you bonus roll 3 times on the first boss. The vault will give you the choice of gear from the first boss. Same with mythic dungeons and if you don’t like your options you can choose a bonus roll token.”
Sadly they then decided they needed to slow players down

Buy tokens, sell tokens, buy carry, get funneled gear. You may not specifically get a weapon, but that's not what the guy said, he just said loot.

Bonus rolls are gone for good reason: they saturated gear drops. I am happy they don't exist anymore.

Yes, getting two bows from the endboss as only loot without a single hunter in the group in 10 player dragon soul really was perfect. I cannot imagine how you could improve such a perfect system.

No system is perfect, of course, and even today people get plenty of things they don't need. I am not sure there is ever a way to make it perfect without devaluing loot and raiding completely. If you give away only what someone could use as an upgrade, you remove choice and make it impossible to try again.

Imagine not doing everything possible for your loot.

I've been farming a head piece for 6 weeks in every possible difficulty (except mythic cause we're not far enough into progress for that) to get a head piece. Even went into lfr (as soon as the corresponding opened) with 3-4 guildies that could trade 213 heads every week.
I got it last week finally, from lfr of course. I've had the rank 5 unholy bonus sitting in my bag for ages. Even upped the blood bonus to rank 3 while waiting.

That being said: you should try harder OP. Do your full heroic clear for 3 chances at your daggers as well. Lfr, normal, heroic and the vault are a total of 9 chances per week to get a specific item.

considering they lost atleast 80% of the retail population,its VERY likely next expansion will have boe bis weapons droping in raids

We wanted loot to be loot, but they decided sure... we give you your loot, we will just make loot hardly drop, cause our objective is to squeeze your money, not offer a fun experience you want to come back to.

I love how they removed reroll tokens cause it looked too much like a slot machine, yet it was the only thing giving us some semblance of agency over the loot we get.

This is one of the reasons why people left. The disdain from the devs is palpable.

i dont think bad luck protection existed for boss drops,it was for legenderies and other stuff

this is why badges should come back... you will get something useful 100% of the time from a boss kill and can save up for items that RNG just hates you on.

bonus rolls were bad luck protection. nothing guaranteed but better for targeting specific items than the vault is.

masterloot was also better if you are a fringe case like the only x user in your raid, that's definitely one of the weaker areas of personal loot and why the weapon tokens in nathria were so nice.

Of course the problem is that with lower drop rates, RNG swings more wildly.

The problem here isn't random loot drops - it's drop power disparity. A special weapon (higher ilvl AND proc) or a trinket etc. are so much more of a power gain than your random mid-boss armor drop that it's an even wilder swing when RNG doesn't go your way (or does, just a swing in the other direction then). Which, ironically, is precisely what everyone hated about Corruption in BFA.

I have no problem with "let loot be loot", but clearly loot isn't loot. And if things just turn into a lottery for the premium pieces, that's SUPER annoying.
