    - Konusuba: If you just want some innocent fun. The plot is meh but its funny and wholesome.

    - Neon Genesis Evangelion: That shit is a downer for sure but its a classic and very interesting. You probably wont understand anything by watching it first but I recommend a 2 minute youtube video where Alex Jones explains the plot. Helped me very much. Also the new movies made it a lot better and less depressing.

    - Deathnote: The first half is a pretty good but the second half kinda not. Still worth a watch if you like psychological crime thrillers.

    - Black Lagoon: This one is pure joy if you like 80's action movies. Its vulgar and violent and its fucking awesome.

    - Attack on Titan: Maybe watch this last because this shit is on another level. Maybe the best TV show ever made, not just anime. Watch it and then watch it again. Take time off work, you will need it.

That's kind of the point, though. Near admits he and Mello aren't as capable of L. The whole point was that L, even after death, still won, through machinations set before Kira even existed. L wins in the end because he and his successors, unlike Kira, were willing to sacrifice themselves for the case, the one thing Kira would never do.

By the way, NO ONE who has yet to see Death Note read these spoilers. They would absolutely ruin the entire thing.

Damn, did anyone mention To Your Eternity? It's a bit lower on action, but it's there. A perfect show if you wanna be sad (in a good way).

Like Code Geass and Gurren Lagann. I don't enjoy mecha anime either, but those two are just amazing in what they accomplish.

Same for Haikyuu, I dislike sports in general, but it's just fantastic to watch Haikyuu and they do a decent job explaining the rules of volleyball without becoming boring.
This is me w/ modern isekais. I despise the genre, but I quite liked Re: Zero once I got to season two. Konosuba is also great!

To Your Eternity is great I'll admit, but I did my best to stick to 5!

And honestly I usually end up forgetting an isekai is an isekai at some point...like with Slime I forget all the time until they make actual references again to real life.

I ended up having to just mention 5 anime that wasn't mentioned yet. As someone who doesn't really rank my anime watched it was difficult. But Higurashi is always my #1 so that was easy.

I can't say much on the isekai thing since I honestly haven't watched all that many.

But another anime that I found enjoyable was Vanitas no Carte which just ended its 1st cour today and will continue back up in the winter season.

The animes were running concurrently with the manga, meaning that they had to insert a lot of padding to keep the show from overtaking the manga and having nothing to do but filler episodes (or making up an original storyline like FMA 2003 did). I quite like Naruto and One Piece but they are unwatchable unless you watch a fan edit that cuts out the bloat.

Shounen made around after 2010 (FMA Brotherhood, HxH 2011, My Hero Academia) tend to avoid this problem since they don't continuously run and the manga is generally way ahead of the anime, so no filler has to be inserted.

It's also aesthetically charming, IMO. Also Kirara is cute!

She is (my sister just picked up a Kirara Hot Topic Exclusive Funko Pop at the mall last weekend), and yes, the art is beautiful. The designs are awesome. Sango is one of the most beautiful female anime characters I've ever seen. Sesshomaru looks like a badass (and sounds like one; hat's off to the voice actors, even the dubbing) despite being a long-haired elf with a long furred tail he wraps around him like a scarf.

I do agree with 90's and early 2000's anime having too much filler, though. Some parts of Dragon Ball Z were awful. Garlic Jr. Saga? Ugh. Like Piccolo alone couldn't have incinerated the little shit after fighting Frieza. Saint Seiya had equally bad filler. Steel Saints, Ghost Saints, Crystal Saint that messed up a whole character's story-arc, and Fire Saint that really belittled Babel's story.

i have a list of saved anime on crunchyroll though some of my favorites aren't actually on there. i'll keep to crunchyroll so that if you're looking to support studios, you only need one sub.

    1. eighty-six

while there are many obvious parallels such as the country the first season takes place is basically nazi germany, there are many subtleties that make this my all time favorite anime. i think this is the first true master piece of anime (season 1 at least) as it is a great story, the animation is amazing, and i'd equate it to anime game of thrones. nothing is off the table which makes you stick to the edge of your seat.

    2. no game no life

i believe i heard that it's getting a season two after nearly a decade but season one is still amazing. the premise is a brother and sister get teleported to a different world by the god of that world after they beat him in chess. the world has two key rules (though there is a full list of pledges you get at the start). that is absolutely no violence is allowed and ANY disagreements are settled by games. while it sounds like a very boring show, it's actually amazing because the entire premise is trying to cheat without getting caught. i've watched season one at least 5 times. thought a warning for the pure hearted, this is a very porn-joke heavy series.

    3. those snow white notes

this is a story anime. all the "action" actually comes from competing with music. specifically the instrument known as the shamisen. it's a very heart touching story about a kid who learned how to play the shamisen from his grandfather and when he passes away, the kid can't find a reason to play the shamisen anymore. the guy leaves his town to try and find his sound. the music is amazing to boot.

    4. knights & magic

this is somewhat your generic mecha anime but what i love about it is the main person has the same attitude a diehard mecha lover would have. that passion leads to him doing everything backwards as society knows it so he can become a pilot and eventually make his own, unique mecha.

    5. the ancient magus bride / the rising of the shield hero

this is a hard choice so i'm choosing both. the ancient magus bride is about a girl who has lost her family, her friends, her pets, and it's all because she has a rare magical gift that attracts monsters which kills them. she gives up on life and decides to sell herself on a black market auction so her life has some kind of meaning. the person who buys her is very weird on the outside but very wholesome and helps heal the girls mental wounds. if you don't have depression and wonder what it's like living with it, this show does an extremely good job representing what it's like. the show actually brought me to tears at one point because of the connection i felt.

the rising of the shield hero is a different take on the isekai genre. the main character gets summoned to another world by a kingdom to fight off the literal end of the world. but the politics of nobles and the royal family cause him to get falsely accused of rape which completely sours the guys take of the world. he doesn't so much to fight to save the world but just to go home. but while he does so, he comes across people he bonds with that make that goal a much harder choice. season 2 is coming out soon as well.

I started watching Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood and have a question. Is FMA:B the first series or is there a previous one? If there is a previous series is it essential to watch to enjoy Brotherhood?

FMA and FMA:B are actually the same rough story at the start, but very different towards their ends. FMA came first, but it took a lot of liberties compared to the source manga to the point where the story and ending are completely different. FMA:B is almost a shot-for-shot remake of the manga.

Short answer is that you don't need to watch one to see the other. In terms of preference, I always liked FMA:B better due to the faithfulness of the adaptation (and it feels like a more complete, well-rounded story), but you can always watch both and make up your own mind.

FMA came out before the manga finished. So it was a "We'll make up an ending" type of thing. Meanwhile, FMA:B came out later and followed the manga.

Cool, thanks guys. I was worried I was supposed to know who these characters were and that I was missing a lot of backstory.

It's been ages when I watched some of these, so I hope nominating them isn't affected by rose-tinted goggles:

    - Code Geass. Looks like it's filled with anime tropes, and I guess to a degree it is, but it's one of those shows where I feel it manages to come out greater than the sum of its parts. Very character-driven, which is how I like my stories. You follow the efforts of Lelouch vi Britannia, a member of the royal family who doesn't like what they do with the world they rule. Features supernatural powers, which are core to the plot.
    - Angel Beats. It's a Japanese school show, but with a twist. You follow a group of kids living on a campus and attending a high-school, but there's something weird going on. I don't remember how fast you're introduced to the meat of it, so I'll just say that they perceive to be in a compromised position and they work against the establishment. It's a fun show that also manages to pull the heartstrings more or less. I loved how well the cast worked together, creating well-built scenes that were fun to watch. I especially remember loving the music, it really complements the show well. The show doesn't diddle either, it keeps evolving as episodes come and go.
    - Clannad. I'm a manly man, but this show managed to pull a tear or two our of me. The first season is closer to your typical school-life drama, just a quite good one, but the second season is where it's really at. And as a bonus, there are a couple of special episodes removed from the main canon that shows a what-if look into the main character ending up with a different girl.
    - Ouran High School Host Club. A school comedy. Protagonist is a high-school girl from a poor family that somehow ends up tending a school for the rich. She stumbles on the rest of the cast, who have formed a host club (it's a Japanese thing, look it up) in the school. Somehow they mistake her for a good-looking guy and enroll her into their club to work as a host, yet pretty soon each figure out she's actually a girl, but for a reason I can no longer remember keep her in the club. It's a really fun show of lovable characters and their hijinks.
    - My Teen Romantic Comedy: SNAFU (or something like that, had to look it up). This is one the more recent shows I've watched (though just the first two seasons, there have been more since). It's a school comedy with some drama. What I liked about it is that the main character is a cynic bastard, which is contrary to how they usually are in this setting. The girls in his life are also well-written and I recall this show manages to avoid tropes better than usual.

I didn't think I'd pick this many shows in a school setting. Actually, they're all that, even Code Geass some of the time. Huh. Well, here's some honorary mentions of something else:
Baccano, Durarara, Elfen Lied, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
Now you see it. Now you don't.

    But was where Dalaran?
