Characters and dead servers for a returning player

Has this happened to anyone else?

I was thinking of wasting some time on TBC Classic. So I checked on which realm my characters are and noticed that the server is completely dead (EU Skullflame). Glad I didn't activate my account yet. So I opened a ticket to customer service and asked if there is possibility for a free transfer to an active server.

Their response was:
If you do not like the server you are currently on there are a couple of options:
* You can create a new character on a different realm and play there
* You can look into purchasing a character transfer to a different realm

No and no. Still after all these years Blizz hasn't found a way to migrate dead servers to live ones and see a returning customers as an important factor what comes to server/game popularity.

I'm sorry but that's just a really poor attempt of trying to justify poor customer service. When will people stop white knighting for Blizzard?

All I see here is an undeserved inflated self worth. Returning players are not important. Level a new character or pay for a transfer. Or quit again.

When will people stop pretending the customer is always right. It's not white knighting if you are pointing out facts. It's not poor customer service if you don't like the rules. If you don't like it then go else where. Staying and then getting angry about the 'customer service' is stupid.

Ok so it seems that there is a bit of misunderstanding here. I'm not angry at all. Only disappointed. If it's their rule not to offer character transfer from a dead server (EU Skullflame - zero activity... I don't know for how long) to a live one, then fine by me. My urge to play is not that big, that I would spend € for transfer because Blizz has decided it's not worthy to offer such service. Not even for servers that have no clear activity.

What I don't understand is why returning players are not considered important. There is no logic. Every player (customer) should be important to some degree. In my case I'm not asking a full set of epics, 10000G or whatever. Just a good gaming and customer experience.

I would have posted to WoW EU forums, but without active account it's not possible.

I think you are running into a CS wall here. You are basically dealing with one of the lowest level of hirelings at Blizzard. They have piece of paper telling them exactly what to write to make sure they never think for themselves.

If you where to somehow get in contact with a real life human being your chances woukd be much better.

I've gotten 2 free server transfers by contacting support since vanilla wow.

OP, there were free migrations available for a while.
My piece of advice... always play on full realms. Yeah, sucks to have a que every now and then, but you can bypass them all easily now a days (Log in from your phone with a remote desk app from work before you drive or similar)

It is always better to suffer a full realm´s struggles than a dead one. Been on both sides and I pick the queues anytime IT also secures the future of the realm. No matter how many people stop logging in, the realm will still have a healthy pop.

Its not pretending anything. He's paying a monthly subscription for a game service which is no longer viable because of the companies stupid decisions and poor handling of servers. Its called common sense. Something Blizzard, and clearly you, lack a lot of.

Unfortunately it's not only returning players, they don't care about what happens at all.

By the time they opened transfers, the servers were long dead, and players long transferred to healthy servers .. it only really helped to bring alts over and a few people that have stopped playing instead of transferring.

Though it makes no sense that they closed the transfers .. but yeah .. if you really want to pick up tbc again, either reroll or transfer on your own ... don't hold your breath for blizz to support people .. they just won't .. it's who they are.

There was a free option, it was for a limited time.

You didn't take advantage of it during that limited time so they assumed you either didn't want to move or didn't care.

I actually logged in by chance on my rogue(alliance) and my warlock(Horde) a while back. Just wanted to log in, run around in SW/Org and see whats going on. On both chars, dead cities. Atleast in SW I saw a couple of ppl, but in org there wasnt even 1 player besides me.

Checked out wtf was going on, found out there was free transfer. I just transfered to some bullshit server I cant remember the name of, but it had alot of ppl on it.

I figured that free transfer offer would be up all the time, cause these servers are literally fucked and dead. I feel for those that might want to return and realise the server is 100% empty. Screwed up not just having it up.

My post came across more aggressive than I intended. Was simply putting the information out there. Sorry you weren't able to take advantage of the free character transfer when it was available. I'm sure the experience of playing on a dead server is pretty terrible, considering how integral a healthy population is in Classic and TBC Classic.

Eating and getting places (that may require a car if there is no infrastructure near you for mass transit) are things you have to do to live.

Playing a game, is not.
