Question Financing a TV how bad is that?

I am looking at a new 8k TV. I cannot afford to pay the full amount, which is $$$$ but I can afford to finance it. If I split the payments with my credit card I can afford to make all 12 payments. 8K TVs arent going down in price between now and late 2022. With my income now payments are my best and safest bet.

8k content is so limited & 8k is only really relevant if you're going with an absolutely huge screen and/or sitting really close to the display.

I'd have a good think about whether or not it's worth getting into debt for.

The only items I would pay for in instalments are a house or a car. Anything else I'd save up.

if you really really want it, id look around for those 0% for 12/24 month deals that are always going on in electronic stores. I deff wouldnt pay interest on it. Otherwise, 8k is not super useful yet. id personally wait, a 4k with solid refresh is likely better right now.

there's a little known secret that's worth sharing here
contrary to what commercialism teaches you, you don't actually need to have the newest and highest spec of everything. also unless you have absolutely perfect vision you probably won't notice the difference between a top of the range TV and the best quality of the affordable TVs (although your brain might try to convince you that you can, but that would happen even if you mistakenly thought you were looking at a better one. the brain is funny like that). it also won't increase the quality of storylines
also debt is not fun. even if it's a completely under control debt, it can still cause additional stress. some things are worth going into debt for but all those credit card companies aren't offering to help pay for stuff to be nice, it's because they get rich by convincing you that you NEED all these expensive things NOW and they'll help you get them for the small price of everything they can get their grubby mitts on

ultimately though it's your life. if you think something is worth the cost then it's worth the cost to you

why would you get a 8k tv when 4k content is only now just starting to become widespread? 8k is a LONG WAYS OFF. imo its a giant waste of money. there is only a handful of games and services that even offer 8k as an option so its just going to go to waste....
r.i.p. alleria. 1997-2017. blizzard ruined alleria forever. blizz assassinated alleria's character and appearance.
i will never forgive you for this blizzard.

If you need to finance a television, then you have money issues, and a television should be the last thing you should be wanting to buy.

LOL 8k. Why pay for at best poor upscaling content with today's tech when you can wait a few years till they prefect it and when 8k content actually gets rolled out in mass.

seems you'd be better off buying a kick ass 4k and saving the extra $$ for the future tv's when the content catches up
    Buh Byeeeeeeeeeeee !!

I wouldn't bother with 8k there is next to no content currently and by the time 8k is more mainstream the TV's will be a lot cheaper.

If I was buying now I would be looking at 75" 4k TV's or a projector tbh.

What 8k media exactly do you have that you'd need an 8k tv?

I bought a 4K projector early this year and at 85" screen size ~160" viewing distance there is a difference between HD and 4K to be seen. But only with 4K blurays, streaming is mostly compressed enough that it doesn't matter. That said, HD sources are perfectly fine but I still think 4K was the right decision.

I don't have a TV...except an old tube which is nothing more than a really big paperweight when not using it for watching DVDs.

I don't understand this desire for such an expense. And I refuse to even consider the reason why anyone would finance such a thing.
    A house, yes.
    A car, sure.
But a TV? No. Pay cash or do without.

...unless you are still living with mom and dad..
    Priorities....

I don't understand the need for an 8k TV, nothing is being shot in 8k, nothing is being marketed in 8k. Its a technology in its infancy. Financing it to get some jump on cutting edge tech is only going to lead to disappointment when 8k TV prices go up in quality and down in price as time passes and media finally becomes available. Even now a bunch of stuff being released in 4k is from 2k source so don't hold your breath.

An 8k TV has plenty of value. There's loads of guys who invite their buddies over so they can show off their newest and greatest gadgets. It's THE thing to do if you have nothing else going for you to make your friends envious. Can't put a price on that.

But yeah, you could also just put an "8k tv" sticker on a 4k and no one would be able to tell the difference.

8k is such a niche atm, you're pissing away money for nothing other than early bragging rights that'd be considerably cheaper in a few year's time...

meanwhile... I paid $300 for my 50in living room TV 5 years ago and its still working great, so I have absolutely no plans on replacing it, until it literally stops working because honestly what is even the point? especially if you have to make payments on it and cannot afford it outright. I can see making payments on something like really good orthopedic mattress (which is something I did and it was 100% worth it), etc, but... TV? does it really make THAT much of a difference to get 8k now?

Honestly I would just invest in a really good 4k tv. 8k tv's wont be worth it for at least another several years.

Just ask yourself how much more you'd get out of a $$$$ 8k tv vs a 4k tv right now. And then ask yourself how hard it would be to wait, with a 4k tv, until 2023+ for a cheaper 8k, that will actually have content that you can discern between the 8k and 4k.

I use this general rule of thumb: if I can't buy 5 of it, I won't buy it. (exception: a house)
Financing things is bad and a TV is bad credit. (since it depreciates in value).
Just my 2 cents though, up to you if you really want/need it.

Pretty much, not to mention stuff like TVs are such fleeting goods that aren't even neccessary in the slightest. You can do so little with them right now and they are completely overpriced. If you can't afford it, I wouldn't pay for it in installments, as everything out of the ordinary (broken washing machine, car or whatever) might derail your financial planning.
You are welcome, Metzen. I hope you won't fuck up my underground expansion idea.
