Ukraine are putting russia losses for the last 24 hours at a staggering 34 tanks and 91 other armoured vehicles.

Its difficult getting the news on whats happening compared to just last week. This Israel-Hamas coverage has become 24/7.
Its a dark day for Israel of course, horrible what has happen, but hasn't Ukraine lost over 20k civilians and nearly 100k children kidnapped?

Israel will come out of this ok, they have money, they have weapons, they have support. Ukraine though, I worry about the upcoming winter and they seem completely forgotten.

I'm sure Zelensky is watching the build up of Israeli armour and the Iron Dome in action with more than a hint of envy. If they had all that, that war would be over.

Well, that's a gross generalization...At least for the Netherlands it's mostly the far right who are pro-russia, the left not so much. In fact as far as I've heard in the last couple of years it's overall the right who is in bed with russia across Europe.

Finland being an obvious exception, no-one in their right mind likes russia here. (I'm not counting idiots like Anu whatshisface from VKK as anyone in their right mind.) It's the same here. The left wing which here is fairly extensive and loathes everything US or NATO related and thus are against helping Ukraine and many will repeat the reasoning that NATO forced Russia's hand. That doesn't change that the far right also is against helping the Ukrainians; it is just under a different premise; the reasoning they like to use is that sanctioning Russia harms the economy.

The Israelis themselves are projecting this to take months.

Once the actual military operation reaches whatever their preliminary objective is one of two things will happen:

1. Israel occupies Gaza. They'll have about half a million to 600k homeless people on their hand, with about a total of 2 million starving sick people, tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of those who just lost children, spouses, parents etc at the hands of the Israelis.

2. Israel artificially creates the worst humanitarian disaster and ethnic cleansing we have seen in recent history by bulldozing the whole Gaza strip by displacing the entire population.

There's a 3rd option, but the third option doesn't actually solve what Israel's current problem is.

3. They'll bomb half the place into a smoldering ruin, create one of the worst humanitarian disasters in recent history AND leave Hamas in control of Gaza, while re-antagonizing every single Arab country in the region, even the ones they managed to normalize relations with.

I'm simultaneously amused and disgusted by the inability of anyone in the press to push the question on the Israelis of -Ok. Retaliation fine. Hamas has to go. Fine. But what's the fucking plan?
