Lightbulb Dragon Knight for Dragon Isles??

Across the multiple speculative thread and potential leaks of 10.0 I've never seen any mention about Dragon Knight class. Which is surprising, because it is something that lays beneath the surface to me.

Imagine something between Dragon Knight from DnD and Dragoon from FFXIV and dovakin from TES.

It would be perfect fit for the upcoming expansion in case if Dragon Isles are for real.

We already have a DK... so... not gonna happen.

In all honesty it's Blizzard we are talking about... most likely they will do a 'Spanish Inquisition' for the theme of next expansion. Having a cohesive story doesn't abide by their rule of cool.

Dragonsworn would be more likely. They could incorporate a decent amount of what you noted and already exist within the lore, but I doubt they’ll be a plate wearing ‘DK’ class.

Im not convinced all exisitng classes and specs are working 100%, have enough of a unique playstyle developed for them, to have a room for another whole class.

Yeah that could be fun. Especially if they pair the class with a Black Dragon race, then you could maybe have a dragon form for unique situations. Like Alexstraza or DW from hots, you could maybe regenerate while raining down meteors from the sky.

Unfortunately there is no lore to support a Dragon Knight class. Typically WoW expansion classes are built around hero characters (DKs=LK, Monks=Chen, DHs= Illidan) and there is no such character to represent a Dragon Knight.

There is a possibility for a class based on Wrathion though. Essentially the player would be a dragon in disguise and have an assortment of dragon-based abilities. However, that could be the basis for a playable race as well. You can check out the class idea via my Dragonsworn concept in my signature.

That's not really something that would prevent them.

    DrK, there you go.

I thought Blizzard's ideas were bad, but you lot are something else lol
    I <3 JK Rowling.

Bard would be better. I'd rather get Dragons as a playable race, choosing from Black, Blue, Red, Bronze, and Green and they can shapeshift to humanoid forms with a toggle on/off options, but can battle in dragon form with tail whips and dragon breath.

Still think most class suggestions sound a bit cringy. Dragon Knight especially. Fits more into something like FF14 with White Mage and stuff like that. Not that cringy there for the setting.

Wow classes always seem to be more archetypical like Warrior, Rouge; Mage. Granted Demon Hunter and Death Knight als are rather specific... but for some reason they don't make me cringe. Maybe because they have been so widly exposed in the lore. The other new class, monk, is another archtype. More like a blueprint.

You could make the new class a sorcerer. Someone who was born with magic, in wows case by being a FAR removed escendant of dragons. And the three/four specs are connected to the flights. This way you also get the Chronomage, can avoid the weird name and get everything anyway

Edit: I do NOT want the player to be able to play actual dragons. That is just too powerfull. And again doesn't really fit wow. Races should stay humanoid at least. Also do you force them to be in their humanoid form indoors because of reasons? Why don't they constantly fly around battlefields throwing fireballs left and right. Half the bosses in wow could not do anything against a aerial threat.

I'm slightly conflicted because as much as I'd like a dragon-based class, in my mind, they'd be a Tank/Heal/Ranged DPS situation and I think the next class should offer more than just ONE ranged dps spec - at least two! Or perhaps they can be like druids, have 4 specs, and the 4th spec can be a ranged physical situation with harpoons and spears.

Logically, if we get anything, it would be a mail wearing class with at least one ranged dps spec. Neither have been added since the games release in 2004.

I think Dragon Sworn could fit this role, as it's already in the lore and would fit the theme of the dragon isles story.

whatever it is, it will most likely be a mail-class

Tough call really, I'm not entirely convinced they would do a new class either, but I kind of think they realize without bringing a new class and race they'll be starting a new expansion on the back foot. Some kind of proto dragon/dragonspawn/draknoid race could be cool, choose between 2 and 4 legged variants, split the race for odd variants between Horde and Alliance (IMO I prefer each faction having different races/classes).
As for a class, the dreamer in me imagines a more FF style dragoon class, medium ranged, spear/polearm and shield, maybe could tank for another spec. I imagine a class fully built around that OG survival hunter range or when you are goofing off in Legion outlaw rogue range.

But I don't think that would fit into WoW lore. It would have to be a nation that is fighting dragons constantly, for the class to originate, and well we are talking about race wise, being dragons. You could make some kind of case for them from a fighting the black dragon flight side, but that's a bit of a cliff.

I think we will get a class with a ranged and healing spec, maybe a third tank spec (mainly because that's the only way Blizz can get more people playing tanks). While I like the work @Teriz did on the Dragonsworn class, something like that just doesn't make sense to me when I look at wow Lore. Mainly because the dragons ... are kind of just dragons, it's not like they learn how to do magic, it's innate.

What I could see is a Dragonpriest/zealot class, but I imagine them more as a cult that worship the dragons, mostly to their(dragons) chagrin. And they would ape what they see from dragons, this would work for the Dragonkin style race as well because those types of dragons aren't exactly the top of the ladder in dragon society, they are more like slaves/servants (per RPG, who knows if it's changed).

The community would just abbreviate it as DGK.

Not every class needs to be a completely new playstyle. Many specs in WoW are almost identical in playstyle anyway.

A short cinematic depicting the class in action would get people onboard, such as the MoP cinematic for Monks. Most people didn't do the TFT bonus campaign and had never seen a monk before prior to the MoP cinematic.

Well since Tinker is the obligatory next class due to DRs and Necro's being omitted from SL, nope no dragon knight. Even if it's dragon isles.

Different playstyle is what makes the class, class, I know the differences arent big but there are still. Which only confirms there isnt enough room for differences to support additional class. Like I really don't find Demon Hunter playstyle good.

Well Pandaren monk is well known hero from Warcraft 3. Not sure he was in neutral hero shop or just in fan made missions but I saw that hero many times. I always was interested what was the story of that hero so I wasnt surprised MoP was released.

I don’t think they would call it a dragon knight but I could see it being Dragonsworn/Talonguard

We have Wrathion with a group of followers and the lore has dragons granting their power to mortals

I'd rather we got a new Dragonsworn race or w/e it would be called, and then figure out some other way to freshen up the existing classes, rather than going beyond the 12 we have now.

Why not just have a dragon class?

Where the "race" is just the mortal disguise.

Idk seems to be dragonsworn is just a poor reflection of what we could have.
