Dragon Isles and Old-World Revamp:
The Dragon Isles is the home of Uldorus, the Throne of Azeroth, which can reshape parts of the planet. Black Dragonflight was tasked to protect Uldorous as well as regulate and make corrections when outside cosmic forces radically alter the planet. This hasn’t happened since Deathwing’s betrayal; several dragons ousted the black dragons from the isles then used the Throne to move and hide it from everyone.
The expansion adds three new zones are part of the Dragon Isles along with two revamped “regions” from the old world which act as max level zones.
First island features the Vulpera homeland. It’s ruled over by one of Ysera’s daughters who is married to a fox loa. Heavily Fae themed. Players are betrayed by the couple after helping restore the zone from an undead invasion that happened during Shadowlands. This zone features expansion’s initial raid.
Second island has a middle eastern themed human civilization of dragon hunters along with a group of neutral Naga. Zone is based on the original dragon isle concept art.
Third island is a crystal desert that looks like the caverns of time. Players fight the original infinite Dragonflight along with a splinter group that is obsessed with collapsing everything into one timeline where the Light wins.
Old-World Revamp:
Lordaeron and Nordrassil are the capitals for the Horde and the Alliance this expansion.
These capitals are special as they need to be built up by players during the 10.0 storyline. They also show off the expansion’s new cross-faction play as they are open to everyone regardless of faction, with unique quests for Horde helping Night Elves rebuild and vice versa for Alliance helping the Undead.
Ashenvale and the Plaguelands are max level “regions”. There is no full world revamp, but each major patch for this cycle will add at least one batch of old-world zones revamped and made relevant for max level characters instead of a completely new zone.
After finishing the 10.0 storyline, players unlock a Threads of Fate styling leveling in these zones for level 1-60 characters with Lordaeron and Hyjal already built up. Completing the storylines of subsequent patches will unlock the zones they reintroduce for this leveling path. The "Kingdom of Stormwind" is planned as a future revamped region.
The Plaguelands = Tirisfal Glades, the Western Plaguelands, and Eastern Plaguelands
Ashenvale = Ashenvale, Felwood, and Mt Hyjal
Heart Shaping:
Players can make minor and major alterations to expansion zones through the Hearth of Azeroth, which is no longer a wearable amulet. Heart shaping is used during the storyline and other areas.
Cross faction Play:
Players can now group with each other regardless of faction. Characters in the group are considered the same faction as the group leader for PvP and questing purposes. There are some restrictions – characters of the opposing faction will still be attacked inside capital cities besides Lordaeron and Nordrassil.
New Class, Dark Ranger:
Reworked lore to be focused on cycle of renewal, intermixing life and death. Not limited to elves, but not open to all available races. The new Dark Rangers feature in the revamped zones.
Two specializations: Ranged Damage spec based on classic Dark Ranger. Healing spec based on banshees and Ardenweald, which stance dances between various song buffs.
Class Proliferation:
Night Elf and Undead Paladins become available during pre-patch.
