6.1 Housing Lottery Screwed Up by SE

    Sooo...

Housing lottery is a thing at the start of the patch, 6.1. Great news!

Now, what is even greater? To be the only participant! 100% chance!

Now, remember to claim your house today if you have one waiting, for you might lose to no one ('0').

SquareEnix managed to mess up a lottery so badly, that you can lose to the machine when you are meant to have 100% chance.. And hundreds are experiencing this..
FOMO: "Fear Of Missing Out", also commonly known as people with a mental issue of managing time and activities, many expecting others to fit into their schedule so they don't miss out on things to come. If FOMO becomes a problem for you, do seek help, it can be a very unhealthy lifestyle..

Every time they try to 'fix' the housing system they just end up making it worse and more frustrating.

Makes me wonder if they forgot something as simple as to add 1 to the index when displaying the amount of bidders...

Let's expand the housing system endgame while making it less available to individual players.

People have the theories of either; SE forgot to remove the '0', or the maintenance right after the patch wiped the participation registry..

If not for this massive mistake, the lottery would give some people a better chance..

I don't understand what you are saying. How did they screw up and how can you lose?

At this point, I'd rather go back to camping all night for larges every hour. Waiting for this new cycle to begin means any available plot is frozen in time...And people who relocated their private houses from Wards 1-18, left their private plot for FC-only wards.

If I ever get a large plot again, I will never abandon it, SE cannot simply design a good housing system (although the actual housing itself is one of the greatest things ever made in MMOs). They just keep adding a lot to housing but manage to fuck it up badly to make it much harder to get into.

You get housing-related items from nearly every event and patch, but no place to put them into, unless you use your apartment as a storage space, which kind of excludes it for any housing desperation-based usage...

I read it as the game has npc's buying the house instead of you. No clue what/who the machine otherwise.

Well. You sign for the lottery, 1 ticket pr. participant. I was the only participant, meaning 100% chance, yet I lost to '0', and now the plot is locked for 4 days, and I'm still signed as participating, but my Gil was given back. I signed up on the 12th of April.

The winning number can be 0 - no one participating winning - even if they were the ONLY participant.

According to the notes, the only ones competing for the property are the participants. If there is only 1, the answer should be simple.

    How do you know this.

Because people literally posted screenshots that winning number was 0, and since NO player can get a lottery entry number of 0...That means any winning number 0 = no one won the house plot. The rules state there will always be a player winning a plot, unlike in real life lottery.

Oh ok. Well. Good luck next time.

    Huh?

It's not a matter of 'luck'. People lost out on what was meant to be a fair chance to acquire a house by the system being broken outright. It's entirely a problem at the feet of the development team.

Yeah, I mean next time you might have to compete with others, so good luck.

just offer instanced housing already and be done with it... can leave the others in there for those that want to be part of actual places... and no apartments don't count. FF14 housing market is worse than the real world

I already own a house, so my frustration is based on friends being unable to have a fair chance at getting one.

Ok, then I wish you no good luck.

Unless they intended for some hidden failure chance to keep some of the better plots open for later weeks, I wouldn't be surprised if it is actually something as silly as that. It may also be that their rng code is something like 0 to numberOfParticipants, instead of 1 to numberOfParticiapnts. Maybe even because starting with 1 without any bidders would result either in a compile error (lower bounds larger than upper bounds) or it crashed on them during testing and they just absendmindely "fixed" it.
You are welcome, Metzen. I hope you won't fuck up my underground expansion idea.
