It's time again for Guess the Speaker!

I’m angry about it. You know why? They’re making the Republicans look ridiculous. First of all, I like Kevin McCarthy, OK? Why wasn’t this done ahead of time? Why are we doing this in front of the public? We look like a bunch of fools, OK?
"We? So, it's clearly a Republican House member."

    Nope. It's FOX News.

Congrats Kev, you've bested the second place record for 'number of voting sessions needed to secure a house speaker' and are still going strong.

If you last until March, you can beat the National Record

It took two months, starting in December 1855, until Banks, then a member of the American and Free Soil parties, was elected on Feb. 2, 1856. The New-York Tribune's Feb. 4, 1856, issue proclaimed Banks' victory the "END OF THE GREAT STRUGGLE; TRIUMPH OF THE REPUBLICANS."

Case in point. Grover (yeah) Norquist a huge Republican influencer back in the day said this about government

"I don't want to abolish government. I simply want to reduce it to the size where I can drag it into the bathroom and drown it in the bathtub."
"The customer is always right" is a nice way of saying "I will put up with your bullshit as long as you pay me"

It amazes me that the Republicans take credit for things they voted against while blaming Democrats for things they did.

It is a pure abusive relationship with them. "It is your fault you didn't stop me from screwing over my constituents." And the bigger problem is people BELIEVE THEM. They outright lie about things, that are so easily verified.

And it isn't all Republicans that do this, some still have basic respect; but that number is shrinking and so many stay silent. The fact that they got people to believe Liz Cheney of all people was a RINO is insane.

Is #12 the one. We're about to find out soon, but it's not looking great as there's already 2 GOP defections.

    Bye ... don't come back!

McCarthy staff is advising members to walk off the floor while Matt Gaetz is nominating Jim Jordan. A number of members walked out.

I dont get this maneuver, but I'll take it. Maybe they should just stay gone and hand Jeffries the win lmao.

GOP staffer sent me this to highlight how drawn out speakership race is impacting offices: “The response we got when we tried to contact the IRS on behalf of one of our constituents. Not sure people realize the non-political ramifications this has on our ability to help folks.”

Reminder that there's a lot of like, "normal shit" that still can't get done because there is no House of Representatives.

Republicans are a joke. Also, lots of great civics lessons for Very Smart People in the replies.

McCarthy seems to be under the belief that he only needs a majority of cast votes to win. I have no idea if he's right.

Bad news for him, Jeffries has been upping him by 10-12 votes each round.

On Friday morning, lawmakers gathered on the East front steps of the US Capitol to honor the police officers who died or were injured during the Capitol riot two years ago to the day.

Just one Republican appeared to show up to the ceremony: Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania.

"I wanted to be here," Fitzpatrick told Insider after the ceremony, saying he didn't know if he was the only member of his party on the steps. All members-elect were invited.

The 10 am ceremony seemed to overlap with a scheduled 10:15 am conference call for Republicans to discuss the latest round of negotiations in Republican leader Kevin McCarthy's quest to become speaker of the House. However, the ceremony had largely concluded by 10:18am.
In which, unsurprisingly, all but one House Republican misses a bipartisan ceremony that was scheduled for this morning to commemorate the officers who died or suffered injuries defending the Capitol building last year.

HArd to tell the difference. They both grew up in suburban households were the TV was set to FOX News.
Their lives are a bit of a disapointment, because they couldnt replicate the suburban success of their parents. They default to blaming Dems for these disapointments, because they went through puberty watching Alan Combs.

Congressional reps also can't renew their security clearances. So, they can't attend meetings which require security clearance.

It's a total mess right now. House Armed Services Committee and House Homeland Security Committee currently can't receive briefings that require security clearance.

Rofl, Republicans are just trolling each other now.

Truly, they're showing that they're an organized party capable of compromise and governance as we enter the fourth and final day of the first week of the year without a Speaker and no House of Representatives.

I'm kinda surprised they haven't tried shifting blame to democrats for not voting for mcarthy or non-voting, saying the deadlock is all their fault.

That is after all, their usual playbook.

Maybe, but he just picked up a bunch of votes. Looks like that backroom dealing paid off.
