“Do not lose time on daily trivialities. Do not dwell on petty detail. For all of these things melt away and drift apart within the obscure traffic of time. Live well and live broadly. You are alive and living now. Now is the envy of all of the dead.” ~ Emily3, World of Tomorrow
Words to live by.
Not sure, but probably "We don't need no inspectors! Sure there have been problems with bacteria contaminating baby formula that needed to be pulled off the shelves due to unsanitary production facilities exacerbating this current shortage, but those inspectors that would ideally catch those problems before they're a problem that finds its way into the food."
some context from someone on Reddit.
I hate Republicans as much as the next person, but this tweet is extremely deceptive. There were 2 bills put to a vote. The first one allowed WIC to waive restrictions on brands states are allowed to buy. One HUGE contributing factor to the crisis is states have contracts with a single company to buy formula, they're not allowed to buy from other companies. That bill waives those contracts and will allow states to put needed formula into poor mother's hands. Only 9 Republics voted against that and as you would think, it's the worst of the bunch. The 2nd one was 28 million dollars that went SPECIFICALLY to the FDA to take fraudulent product of the shelves and boost the amount of inspectors. 192 Republicans voted against that bill because there was nothing in that bill that was a plan for the FDA to help combat the crisis. It was 28 million going to the FDA for a small, specific reason. So no, 192 Republicans didn't vote against the formula crisis. In actuality, 9 shitty human beings voted against the bill that would actually do something to combat the crisis.
Except that increased inspections is necessary given that, apparently, part of the shortage is due to contamination at production facilities, no? And given the lack of supply, it increases the chances of fake/harmful product finding its way onto store shelves or online stores that could harm infants/babies. It's a fairly paltry sum of money honestly.
Simply addressing the current crisis is fine and all, but there needs to be more done to head off future crisis like this, and the second bill seemed to be a tip-toe in that direction.
Was pointing out that there were 2 bills, and the more immediate and most helpful towards this immediate crisis was passed (in the House). Otherwise no one was stating that anything got done, just going on our merry way to make it seem like nothing was passed at all. Yes, the other bill not getting but 12 R votes is shitty and all, but yes, the tweet was misleading.I hate Republicans as much as the next person, but this tweet is extremely deceptive. double....
Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) at abortion access hearing: "How about if a child is halfway out of the birth canal? Is an abortion permissible then?"
Dr. Yashica Robinson: "I can't even fathom that ... just like you probably can't imagine what you would do if your daughter was raped."
They are not even trying to be clever anymore.
Rep. Dan Bishop to Dr. Yashica Robinson: "You're a medical doctor. What's a woman?"
"I'm a woman," she replies.
Getting really dumb here.
Connecticut passed H.B. 5414 which bars state courts from enforcing another state’s penalties against someone who performed or facilitated an abortion. It allows people sued under vigilante abortion bans, like Texas’ S.B. 8, to countersue in Connecticut court, collecting both damages and attorneys’ fees if they prevail. It prohibits state authorities from complying with another state’s request to investigate, penalize, or extradite individuals for providing or facilitating reproductive health services.
Washington State passed House Bill 1851 which does the same thing.
California has similar bill in the house.
There is a chronic shortage of medical professionals who know how to perform abortions. That may get much worse in anti-abortion states where medical schools will be forbidden to provide the necessary trainings. In those states, women that need abortion to save their life, may have the procedure performed by a doctor with no prior training. Assuming that abortion is still considered a live-saving medical option.
Meanwhile, California has approved 40M in additional funding for abortion training program.
Oklahoma lawmakers have passed a bill banning abortion from the moment of "fertilization." The measure now goes to the governor and is among the nation's strictest.
It's going to get worse women. Be ready!
Democrats are the best! I will never ever question a Democrat again. I LOVE the Democrats!
There should really be a law where, if all you do is bitch and moan about something, then when a vote comes up for said thing and you vote against it, are immediately relieved of your job/spot/whatever.
Agreed, I would honestly go a step further and make all public responses and talking points be bound under oath for all members of office.
If they say something on the radio, tv, on stage or anything else as a public official and in a public capacity, they are defacto under oath and lying to the public is illegal at that point. Would love to figure out how to extend that to include when they misdirect with words that don’t answer something they are pretending they did not but sure how to do that or with lies of omission.
Saying they aren’t allowed to talk about information that is classified would be true but knowing the information and then claiming a lie or claiming they don’t know something when it can be proven they do could be legal issues. And this would extend to anyone speaking on their behalf.
But good luck getting them to pass regulations like that on themselves or even getting a group to enforce them and if they did, the GOP would make sure they were selectively enforced.
Kinda makes you wish for that shocker collar truth detector thing they had on an old episode of “Sliders”.
Since we can't call out Trolls and Bad Faith posters and the Ignore function doesn't actually ignore it. Add
"mmo-champion.com##li.postbitignored"
to your ublock or adblock filter to actually ignore ignored posters. Now just need a way to ignore responses to them as well.
