    new talent system

whats the point of it? most of it is 'fake' variety. illusion of making a choice. most of them were simply baked into basic spells and abilities.
especially after going the 'easy route' and introducing the old new talent system back in mop. why go back to this? i know its not the same as classic talent system, but still its only confusing, unnecesarily requires more time to set it up and more ppl may have the feeling of doing 'something wrong'.

sell me on this. alpha/beta has been going for several months now. whats are the pros and cons of this system?

    1. Sustainability.
    2. Sustainability.
    3. Sustainability.

For me - this is the BEST feature/approach ever happend(not only this, but how alt friendly the game is and the UI revamp). It's the streamlined approach across the board.

They want to build on this system(add new talents, play around placement - and not scrap it later on). We want the WoW idenity back and not keep reinventing it with systems.

Im certain if they kept the MoP model for the last 10years - they would had been better off today.

You aren't missing something, you're just looking at it like a game dev. It IS functionally the same as what we had. You pick small gains along the way to what are essentially the same row system as before. The only real difference is that you get a point every level now, and there are combinations that you couldn't do before.

So it isn't a bad thing, but you're right it isn't a massive change that should be marketed as the expansion feature.

    Oversimplified version :

    1. Current system - cookie cutter only

    2. New system - cookie cutter if you want too and lot more room for optimization and theorycrafting for different encounters / scenarios

So basically if you don't mind the current cookie cutter system, nothing really changes for you. If you like optimizing your build then you gain a lot more tools to tinker with.

also let's not forget that for a lot of classes you now (thanks to the talent trees) get access to spells that you couldn't use before because of the single talent choice/row. this hopefully will enable different builds. I appreciate there is going to be a lot of cookie cutter, because people just watch X and copy Y. my hope is that this leads to some unique builds that weren't thought of before. probably won't but it's different and I feel more engaging for the player as it's not every 15 levels you grow as you level now.

the other factor is its kind of future proofing as they can build on these talents as the game carries on. win/win in my opinion.

Nothing really, all be like copy and paste what pros using from wowhead, icyveins or whatever and use that. Nothing interesting at all.

I mean the best part is that you can literally import a text string from a website that you can save. The only way they could have made it matter even less is if you could put in a link that automatically checks the newest build for what you are trying to do and downloads the build itself. On one hand I have to say I'm glad I don't have fiddle around with talents myself and click through that tree every time when I respec, on the other hand, it's kinda bizarre to to find something so streamlined and nerdy in a (kind of) AAA game. This is something I would usually expect from a minecraft mod, not a commerical game that at least claims immersive reasons for its designs.
You are welcome, Metzen. I hope you won't fuck up my underground expansion idea.

the new talent trees are basically fluff but let's be fair. the old talent trees were also just fluff. both were/are going to be min-maxed with most of the attentive player base following that path. i will say it is a nice change of pace to actually feel like some choices matter WITHOUT SCREWING OVER PLAYERS FOR MONTHS *glares at covenants*. probably a mostly pointless change but a welcome one for once instead of literal months of controversy because the devs couldn't be bothered to pull their heads out of their butts for no good reason.

Too small. Icons and text. My old man eyes have trouble reading all the stuff.

Lets see new system I can skip all utilty if I want and make a bursty class. I can take all bursty skills. Or I can take a variety of DPS skills, I can take AOE skills I can take passives.... There is a ton of customization that wont always be BESTDPSZORZ FOR RAIDS IS ONLY THING THAT MATTERS...

If someone likes open world and soloing stuff the utility is useful, and burst dmg is more useful than dps dmg and aoe maybe less useful. Idk why basic rpg concepts have to be explained to you.

I don't know and I don't care tbh. Selecting talents just feels too archaic and boring now days. Just gonna use imports from the internet and be done with it.

What feels archaic about it? Is it because you will just do what the guides tell you and don't care to select things yourself? You think customizing your character's strengths and abilities is boring?

Honestly, i don't think there are many positives or negatives. It's just a thing to keep devs busy. They love their systems. I don't think the game gains a lot from this cause there will always be an ideal build.
But, it sure is preferable to borrowed power.

It's more one of those things where this isn't as bad as the alternative.

Well, no. Every single talent has a place to fill - the decision to be made is what combination to take.

I can do way more with the new talents than I could a week ago with the old system - and I've not even started exploring.

Challenge Mode : Play WoW like my disability has me play:
You will need two people, Brian MUST use the mouse for movement/looking and John MUST use the keyboard for casting, attacking, healing etc.
Briand and John share the same goal, same intentions - but they can't talk to each other, however they can react to each other's in game activities.
Now see how far Brian and John get in WoW.

For those of us who aren't interested in playing "optimally", it feels great to play around with and try different things. Rotations feel quite different. And the best part is, for those of us who ARE interested in playing optimally, we have nothing to bitch about it either because it's just a simple copy-paste job now.

Hahaha. This threat is awesome. The subjectivity of some people is Rather funny.

Most people will go for wowhead, because they
    A. Are too stupid/lazy to read and think
    B. Think they are pro players and every talent needs to be as the top 0.1%
    C. Think they cant do damage with their own build

But at the end of the day, the lazy ones/tryhards can get their build even easier from wowhead and can even save it.
The people who play the game for fun can tinker with it.

It could be seen as a win win if you let go of the "i hate everything blizzard does, but still play the game" mentality.

So, exactly like it was before.

Point is, a lot of people play with the "best performance" concept in mind. And the best talent setup can be only one.

The reason for new talents to exist as others said is that we don't need staples and gimmicks like artifacts, azerite armor, etc to give players new things, but now everything is baked directly into your class.

Lmao, this is exactly it, people are so desperate to find things they don't like they won't even give it a chance.

I would be curious in an actual discussion on what specifically is wrong with this talent system, what is an example to them of a GOOD talent system, and why that game is different.

But that's too much to ask isn't it, much easier to get angry and throw a tantrum.

That's exactly the point. You can hardcore tune for every single raid encounter. You can go cookie cutter raid build. You can do ST/MT Raid build. You can do Solo Questing, BG, Arena Builds. Or you can just say yolo and play the all around cookie cutter build.
Yes, some talents are almost always picked, but many are not.
