It's good for them, harder opponents to play, thus more chances of failing the qualification, but gives you more overall strength than playing Samoa and co :P

Australia often failed to qualify from Oceania, cause the winner of Oceania had to win a playoff game, and when you're used to play F tier teams, and suddenly have to play a B tier one, you're not in form for it.

Canada looked terrible. Mexico lost in the tie breaker. Also teams you may have heard of called Germany and Denmark both did worse than Mexico.
Costa Rica only got in in playoffs and at one point were in the final 16 yesterday.
