Question on replacing my old cpu

I am having my old AMD 4 replaced with a 5700 or 5800 next month. (mb was
replaced a year ago). I need to furnish the paste and the cooler. What do I
    need ?

One other thing. I have a SSD that I want to use in a backup machine. What is the
proper way to reformat it ?

You don't need much, check compability of the motherboard with new CPU, and if you getting a HOT CPU get a good cooler, not really hard.

Do you want to use as a secondary disk? If so right click on start menus and select disk manager and reformat the whole thing, you might want to wipe existing partitions before formating, disk manager allows you to do that.

HDD's are better than SSD's for backup, because they last longer.
