Good idea! I'm extremely behind on 2018 releases as I've been trying to catch up on all the 2017 stuff I missed as well as just listening to random albums I haven't heard, but here's what I have so far:

Ok this has been one of the best surprises in music in a long time. Best traditional metal album since Hell's Curse & Chapter or Satan's Atom by Atom. Really kudos to this band for creating decent music almost 5 decades into their career.

Very good, reminiscent of some of the first albums Priest put out. Three thumbs up.

Calling them progressive death metal was a gross oversimplification of their sound. It is true that they are basically a death metal band but over the course of their discography they have shown a wide array of influences. Grindcore, sludge metal, progressive metal, melodic death metal, black metal and even some heavy metal have been present in their sound with varying degrees.

I am far from a death metal fan, at least as far as classic, oldschool death metal is concerned, but Slugdge are easily one of the most important bands of the decade for me.

I just found that out the hard way I guess. I saw them being labelled as death metal and just skipped them. When I saw them in your list I gave it a listen and that album is really good. Really surprised me.

Slugdgde was a snorefest for me. Way too clean and clinical. Fairly poorly edited too.

Funeral Mist will probably be in my top3 for the year. It's stupendously good.

I got into them through anime conventions that I attend and DJ at. I think they're cute and the music is fun.
I saw them in concert finally a couple of months ago. It was cool.

The music is fun indeed, I saw them live, the musicians are damm good.
Sure it's a gimmick, like most of the metal band nowadays. They have the accusation of been sell out and shit like that but those hardcore fans seems to forget that most of their favorite musicians or bands are in part of 50 other bands // project.
Not worst than Dragonforce or any other Japan Visual kei band
