Oh Goriq - what do you think of this one?

Yea, not to keen on most of their stuff. It's the addition of Messiah Marcolin to this album that made it stand out for me.

Btw, are you guys familiar with this one?
New Deafheaven stream m8s, let's see what all the fuss is about
http://www.npr.org/2015/09/23/441531...en-new-bermuda
1st track: 6.5/10, starts strong, second half is kinda weak, goes full Mogwai and I'm just sitting here wondering why the cheese.
2nd track: 8/10, really well written overall, ending is kinda SUN BAT HER for the nostalgics
3rd track: 8/10 GYBE! intro, another really well written song, great fucking outro, probably because it reminds me of something else that's good and I can't put my finger on it
4th track: 6.5, starts pretty weak, but redeems itself during the second half, even goes chugga chugga
5th track: 7, it's decent, pretty middle of the pack Deafheaven, the soft parts became kinda boring/expected/cliche
8 min 38 sec * 6.5 + 10 min 15 sec * 8 + 9 min 18 sec * 8 + 10 min 7 sec * 6.5 + 8 min 23 sec * 7 / 48 min 44 sec= 7/10
Final verdict: Decent/good. It might be their weakest album though.
All those piano outros...

Sums up the whole record pretty much.
I agree it is fairly decent. Just kinda too obvious and sappy. After Sunbather I wished they would have tightened up their arrangements and song structures. Somewhat indulgent and that indulgence is not particularly remarkable when you do almost exact same thing on every song.
New Cryptopsy song, from apparently a new EP.
Not that bad tbh. Could be better, but that's because I'm used to Cryptopsy sounding insane.

I just listened to the new Tyranny and holy fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.
Some of the dankest fucking funeral doom I've heard in my life. Blows Tides of Awakening completely the fuck out. Easy AOTY material.
Listening to it in high volume is a completely surreal experience, it reminds me of Ataraxie at points (also a top tier funeral doom band).

Never fails to kick my ass.
Easily the greatest OSDM revival band out there. That "Teeth Into Red"...
These guys are in my top 10 most underrated bands ever.

The best Deafheaven record:
For some odd reason Vuvr reminds me hugely of Mr Jarzombek (of Watchtower / Spastic Ink etc.).
Trying to dig up stuff to possibly put on my EoY list.
So far it's dreadfully full of metal
Got about 15 bands on my list currently, though I'm quite sure I'll drop a couple of them. Most of them wind up there as a reminder for later, not necessarily because they'll be on that list.
At least PIL released something this year and that might make it in.
Here's mine so far:
Metal pretty much annihilated everything else from other genres, from what I've heard so far at least. Obviously metal is one of my most comfortable genres, that should go without saying.

I'm listening to it right now, definitely loving it so far. First 3 tracks are close to Gastronomicon quality tier, I hope it doesn't go downhill from there.
Just done with it, it was pretty good. A 7/10 I think, almost as good as Gastronomicon. The end was as good as the start, but I think that a couple of tracks were a bit weaker compared to the whole album (like the 7th one). Definitely a band for a niche audience.
For the early 90's Obituary fans, this is a must listen:
Yeah they are doing pretty well considering they are pretty low profile.
