Omar from Mars Volta
Awesome, I clicked on this forum topic with every intention of saying Omar Rodriguez Lopez from The Mars Volta!!Originally Posted by Yoshimoto

I like this suggestion mostly because it complements mine from earlier in the thread. John Frusciante has recorded guitar for the Mars Volta since Frances the Mute I believe. Then it was just solos, after that he recorded the majority of the guitar tracks.

Satriani is superb imo. Wish I had his feeling =\
Some other very good players:
Steve Vai, Steve Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler. I like a lot of 'em, there is not enough space here to list XD
Dekkz - Undead Rogue | Veronnica - BE Warlock | Azäzel - BE Paladin | Dekz - Orc Shaman | Hässlich - BE Death Knight | Jobulani - Troll Priest
Slash , from Guns n Roses .
When it comes to skill, i gotta say:
John Petrucci (Dream Theater) and Don Anderson (Agalloch) comes to my mind.
A part from that, i'd say i really love the guitar-playing by Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) and Mikael Åkerfelt (Opeth), even though they're not lead-guitarists that much, they still write a lot of the material.
I never used to have a favorite guitarist, until the hubby sat me down and made me listen to Tom Morello. The things he does on a guitar, I just find awesome. It's like he's spinning discs on it or something, it's just spectacular.
This passion is a plagiarism.
My biggest influence would be John Petrucci. Other than that it's Guthrie Govan (only mentioned once in this thread, makes me sad) Ron Jarzombek (Spastic Ink), Satch, Dimebag and a couple more.

I know that there is may more great guitarists but this is the ones that comes to mind.
This is sadly depressing that nobody has come up with the correct answer. the correct answer is of course Mr. Edward Van Halen.
Satriani is a somewhat distant second and fighting for 3rd would have to be Dave Murray from Maiden.
Tim Reynolds is the best guitarist IMO.
While Jimmy Page is one hell if a guitarist, I can't stop thinking about MSI's song "I hate jimmy page" every time I hear his name D:Originally Posted by Parhadox

2 of my favours are
Santana (I just adore his music )
Herman Li (While I do know, he has proved that he can't play some of his songs as he did before (TFF) I still am stunned over the fact that he was self learned, and that he still mester his guitar as was it part of him self)

Saul Hudson known as Slash imho :
Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin)
Jimi Hendrix (Jimi Hendrix)
Eddie Van Halen (Van Halen)
Those are my top three favourites. Not in order!
Brian May, John Petrucci, Alex Lifeson, Jimmy Page, EVH.
