[SPOILERS] The Lich King in Cataclysm

Well first of all, in my opinion Blizzard purposely made Bolvar look how he is; yes he got burnt but his appearance is too Cataclysmish. He is seen in the cinematic but the patch brings an actual in-game model. Wether we see him before or after we kill the Lich King in the raid; then that explains the purpose of the game model in the game files but if we dont where does he come in?

    Just for my thoughts

Oh and another thing, isn't the Lich King immortal? lawl.

Sure, the Lich King is immortal.

Arthas, on the other hand, is not.

When people say that there must always be a lich king. THey are not saying he is immortal. They are just saying. "Listen if we dont have one the scourge will kill us all." Arthas was keeping the scourge at bay somewhat.

Immortal \Im*mor"tal\, n. One who will never cease to be; one exempt from death, decay, or annihilation

Arthas is the Lich King, therefore Arthas cannot die. The armour he wears give him immortality, the LK shouldn't be dead. Blizz is culling very important lore characters because they think that's the only way they can progress the storyline T_T

How would you have had the WotLK story come to an end then? It really could have ended no other way that with Arthas's death.

Bolvar is chained up above where the Lich King sits
Well there are plenty of idiots who squeal and think it's metal. Luckily for us, they can't reproduce for the reasons of their pants being too tight which causes extreme mangina...ness

You have the possessive backwards here. The Lich King is a unique entity that consumed Arthas and Ner'zhul. Arthas was still a corporeal mortal whose fleshy mass was the physical host. So yes, Arthas can die, and yes the essence of the Lich King can (separately) be immortal. Think of an atomic structure: without the protons the electrons still exist... they just go all over the place and sh!t blows up. You have to keep something there (Bolvar) to balance the system out and keep things in check.

Arthas never was the Lich King, his body was merely a host for the Lich King to use.

Immortal in World of Warcraft means something very different. It just means living to a very old age, for example, Draenei are said to be Immortal. They are not invincible, they can die, they just have extremely long life spans.

    A quote from Wowwiki:
Immortals in Warcraft are generally resistant to sickness and injury, but immortality does not confer invulnerability. Immortal beings can still be wounded and even killed. Indeed, many immortals have perished over the course of recorded history, particularly during the War of the Ancients. The death of an immortal is just as real as any mortal death and, barring a few extraordinary cases, just as permanent.

What, then, does the term immortality mean in Warcraft? Immortal creatures essentially stop aging when they reach adulthood, and thus, they cannot die merely from old age. In addition, they tend to be more powerful than most mortal creatures, although this tendency does not always hold true. Even godhood itself is no guarantee of superior might. Consider the titans' defeat of the Old Gods. The titans are not gods, but their vast power allowed them to imprison the Old Gods far below the surface of Azeroth.
And here is a page about life spans, showing which races are curently "Immortal": http://www.wowwiki.com/Age

Re: [SPOILERS] The Lich King in Cataclysm

The lich king is immortal in that there will always be the lich king.

The person that is the lich king is not immortal, e.g. arthas died, now bolvar is the lich king, therefore the lich king is still alive.

Re: [SPOILERS] The Lich King in Cataclysm

What Im guessing is, since the Lich King is now "good" (assuming there's still a lot of Bolvar in it), that when the patch comes to kill Deathwing, he will make a surprise appearance to help save the world, and entering Deathwing's lair will give us rep with the Scourge, which in turn will gives us some fantastic epic gear, ala Ashen Verdict.
