My idea on what the upcoming final boss encounter in Cataclysm:
Like many of the most difficult encounters in the game, Yogg , Lich King and many others. One of the biggest factors in them being so difficult is that they either contain some sort of add, or multiple bosses. So of course my idea for this boss encounter will incorporate more than one boss. Along with a hard-mode, inspired by ulduar/sartharion
Bosses used: Neltharion the Earth Warder (Alive/Dead/Human)
Onyxia (Alive/Dead/Human)
Nefarian (Alive/Dead/Human)
The fight would be situated in some sort of circular room, going to assume it’s a cave.
To begin as with all other dragons, each of the 3 will have tail swipe and a flame breathe. Putting a higher demand on tanks changing positioning based on kill target throughout the fight, along with the added effect of being completely wrecked if you get tailswiped into another one of the dragons.
“Special” Abilities:
While channeling the dragons are invulnerable along with being in human form
Deathwing:
Earthen Grasp: Grabs (3/4/5) random non tank raid members. Dealing 2% of total health per second, along with causing them to be unhealable. When channel time is complete the (X) raid members will be dropped to the ground (high enough to deal the 50% remaining hp). In order to counter this ability, Earthen Grasp will spawn shells of stone around the target, which will be able to be dps’d down. If one/multiple of them are not killed in the 25 seconds, levitate/slowfall/blink etc. will be able to save them.
For each dragon in undead form, he will grab an additional person.
Onyxia:
Whelp Portal: Channels a portal in front of Onyxia, spawning 10 whelps every 5 seconds for 20 sec.
The tank(s) that is not currently handling a boss will have to pickup the whelps. In undead form(explained later) she will spawn an Onyxian Warder at the beginning along with 15 whelps every 5 seconds for 20 sec.
Nefarian :
Shadowflame Destruction: Over 25 seconds, black holes will spawn randomly under players, lasting (5/2) seconds. When the time is up, they will consume themselves and everything in it, killing all players, whelps or the Onyxian Warder. If one of the bosses happens to be in it, they will go into an enrage dealing 100% increased damage along with a 100% speed increase. Basically you wipe.
Baseline Abilities:
All 3 will have the basic Tail-Swipe and Flame Breathe
Deathwing:
Inhuman Nature(Passive): Deathwing becomes increasingly angry towards his foes. Gaining 1% increased damage for every (15/12/9) seconds he is in combat.
Nefarian:
Class Debuff: Every 40 seconds while not channeling in human form. Lasts 15 sec. 1 class for Dragon 2 for Undead form.
Hunters: Pets attack their masters and become invulnerable
Priests: Heals will become corrupted causing damage instead, while damaging abilities cast will heal their target instead of damaging.
Mages: Polymorph themselves and cannot be broken
Warriors: Shifted into Defensive Stance
Death Knights: Any disease damage dealt, now deals the same amount towards the caster.
Paladins: Any auras in effect are gained by the 3 bosses and adds that are up, cannot drop the aura until timer runs out.
Druids: Every 5 seconds they will cast entangling roots(instant) on a random raid member. Does not change form.
Shaman: Corrupted Totems will spawn near each shaman, Buffing nearby allies, or damaging the raid.
Rogues: Any time a poison procs, the rogue will also gain an improved version of that debuff.
Warlocks: Over the duration, each warlock will start casting their dots on random raid members, costing 0 mana each.
Onyxia:
Fiery Stranglehold Every 20 seconds lasts until dispelled. Casted on 1/3 targets. Dragon/Undead Form.
Target is silenced and unable to attack until X amount of healing is received.
Fight itself:
Every minute one of the bosses will channel their special ability. 2 Minutes later the other two dragons will cast theirs simultaneously. Example: #1 casts -2minutes- #2/3 casts-1minute-#3casts-2minutes-#1/2casts
Etc etc.
The hardmode will be triggered, by the order in which each dragon dies. If neither Onyxia or Nefarian die before Deathwing’s hp reaches 0 then normal mode. 1 dies Hard mode, 2 insane omfg you’re dead mode.
At the beginning of the fight, the raid can choose to straight out burn Neltharian, attack Onyxia/Nefarian, or split their dps between the 2 lesser dragons.(Reason Below) When either of the 2 dragons(Onyxia/Nef) die they will be ressurected into their undead form. Increasing the power of their abilities. While draining 1% of their total hp every 4 seconds. If either of them die while in undead form, Neltharian will enrage, wiping the raid. Therefore you want both of them to start decaying around the same time so you have as much time as possible to dps Nelth.
When Deathwing (in dragon form) dies. He will absorb the life essences of Onyxia and Nefarian inorder to come back to life in Undead form himself. His power will be based on if they were in Undead or Dragon form when he died.
Deathwing gains the abilities of the 2 lesser dragons. Along with resetting stacks of inhuman nature on him. Every minute he will channel all 3 of the special abilities simultaneously. While the baseline abilities of Nefarian and Onyxia will remain to be cast. He will also gain a new ability called:
Flame Lash: Increases all damage taken by (10/20/30)% casted every 10 seconds lasting 25.(Stacks) Cone infront of caster.
Requiring you to tank swap every stack
These abilities will be repeated until he reaches 0 hp again. At which point the encounter has been defeated.
Some things to note: I cant really give values on abilities since there’s no telling what sort of gear we may have at that points. Along with what sort of abilities.
Also this is strictly based on being made for 25 man. 10 man scaling isn’t taken into account so just ignore it. It's also more of a base idea for the encounter. Not something that wold be made as is, but be added onto.
