my idea is controversial and will probably be laughed at lol, but why do we need some cool CD at the end of our tree? why not have something like warriors titan grip (of course i mean being able to hold a 2h in one hand not dual wielding), then paladins would wield a 2h in one hand and a shield in the other, would make them look unique carrying a huge sword/axe/mace and shield. i know this goes against the whole idea of a WoW paladin but i just think it would look really cool, give us access to a couple of the baseline shield spells and add a little survivability at the same time. it'll never happen but just seemed like it would be fun :P
lol, good idea + remove Shield of the Righteous from protection tree and make it spell and cost no HP with few sec. CD + move Reckoning to tier 1 in protection

It would have been a great idea if Blizzard hadn't gone with specialisations. This idea is better suited for Ret-tanking.

As its stands, the DPS using a shield idea would have been better off being applied to arms warriors, with the shield forming part of their mitigation mechanics that Rets would get via various shields and healing.
