There are several animes this season I'm interested in, AnoHana definitely takes the cake though. I love stories that are bitter-sweet.

I felt genuinely bad about the ending of Madoka Magica. Almost a bit too dark for my taste.

Edit: Gotta give major creds to the music of the anime though, definetly among the best I've heard in anime way.

You should watch the 1st episode of Gai Rei Zero. Most misleading episode to a series ever, but defiantly the most epic and wtf 1st episode in the history of anime

Im waiting for netflix or blockbuster to get it in. Both say its on order still... Is Gai Rei Zero very dark at all? ive only seen the trailer and advertisements and parts of it I was like I don't know about this but others looked interesting.

Cowboy Bebop- Simply one of the best series of all time.

I really wonder if I am the only person who forced themselves to watch that and even literally fell asleep watching it. I don't know because everyone talked it up that I expected too much out of it and was always waiting for some amazing over the top event to occur but I never really figured out why its so highly rated. /shrug I usually like and focus on the popular anime too but just could not get into it for some reason.

umm tbh i havnt finished the series but i have watched the movie from what ivv seen thusfar the movie itself is just apsolute win in every way..its good when sbs has more then porn on at 2 in the morning

If you're referring to the One Piece guy then that's a yes no. See Funimation is now handling it and has even redone the old 4 kids episodes so very little if anything has been changed but if you watch the 4 kids one then prepare for more alterations that pokemon dbz and sailor moon combined.

I've actually found myself watching Yu-gi-Oh over again (yay for Hulu!) I've never seen the fourth and fifth seasons, and it's just getting...weird. I'm halfway through the fourth season and I'm starting to lose interest. It's like the Buu Saga of DBZ. They just went in a completely different direction. And I don't tend to like anime that gets really weird. neon Genesis Evangelion being one good example of weird plots that are just uninteresting.

Guys. If you have not seen Madoka yet, DO. I hate to be forceful but for a 12 episode series it was magnificent.
Also that ending was like Evangelion... And it was great. If they had gone any darker, it would've sucked. If it had been any happier, it wouldn't have been loyal to the show. It was just the right ending. 5 stars.

@Sy Can you please stop thinking about naruto as just a fighting - shounen. It is true that the action takes place in a shinobi world and at first maybe all you can see is the fighting but the anime is so much more than this. Lately the story is just so emotional and at whole new level of depth that judging it solely as some guys fight bla bla bla is just not fair.

Another fact that maybe allot of people miss is that it is focused on the "growth" of the main char Uzumaki Naruto
who is a troublemaker at first who only seeks attention and who eventually matures into a fine potential leader that many acknowledge(which was actually what he wanted from day 1). He is the kind of person you would like to have with you if you were to ever be forced to go to hell. Furthermore you can see just how the world around him changes due to his kind heart and desire to help everyone. To some extent the same thing can be said about Monkey D Luffy from "One piece". People who today are your enemy and tomorrow would be ready to go to hell and back to save you. The character in bleach is probably to a lesser degree in the same boat. And there are allot more "heroes" such as the main char in "history's strongest desciple:Kenichi", Fairy tail(Natsu and the gang) etc.

You said you do not like fighting shounen animes but tittles like gunslinger girl or claymore fall into that category so in the end which one is it?

Anyways dunno if you just browse anime description or whatever but I can tell you that most of the time they don't always reflect how good things are. I could have missed AWESOME animes like "GTO: Great teacher Onizuka" or "Van Helsing" if I would have only took what I read from their description.

For me a good anime is measured by how high a connection I can establish with the main char(s) rather what the genre is. I am a boy/guy/whatever and I did watch stuff like "B Gata H Kei" simply because I found it funny as hell and to some extent because I could find a resemblance to Kosuda when I was younger.

On a final note it's ok to say you don't like a certain anime tittle because it just doesn't click with you but when I see such shallow reasons like it's "a fighting shounen" it just doesn't feel right knowing that some of them are way more than that. All of the thoughts in this reply are just my personal opinions and are not meant to force you to agree on what you should watch or not but rather to help refine your selection process.
Guess what I am trying to say is don't judge a book by it's covers.

i dont think anyone really honest to god think naruto is so bad they would watch it over DD but its just 2 many episodes to catch up with

i hated the ending to eva it had to be the greatest disapointment in anime i have ever had everything else is great..but the ending was just not what it could have been i guess, from what ivv read a lot of other people thought that too and even sent the director death threats lol

Hmm saying it's a pile of crap is still better than just giving out shallow reasons. There are many fillers yes, some good, some bad but overall this is an anime worth watching(personal opinion) and also all the things I said start from early episodes. Furthermore I believe that if you watch an anime this long the main char become's like a son(a bit 2 strong analogy but work with me) and you want to be part of his adventure's be them big or small. This is how people lived through the fillers.

Also 400 episodes(1/3 of which can be skiped I guess if you want to avoid the fillers) is not that much given 1 episode lasts around 20min. I am currently watching one piece which is at ep 495 and I watched around 440. Even with that many episodes I feel time just flew by due to the enjoyment factor.

Recently finished Tears to Tiara, and it turned out to be utter crap
The start was interesting, and till roughly halfway it was very good to watch, but after that the quality toppled and it went downhill. Pretty hard. I was happy to have finished it, since I rarely drop a serie, and I really don't want to have incomplete anime on my list, but this one got very close

Also watched:
B Gata H Kei: Very funny, although they can't keep up the humour through the entire anime, but still very funny to see, and a very different anime in it's genre.

Black ★Rock Shooter: A very impressive OVA, very short, and very unique. Especially the music (or the lack of) was very good. Awesome short OVA, to bad there isn't more.

Still in progress:
Chu Bra: Although funny, the focus on underwear (yes, underwear, not a constant stream of pantsu) is getting a bit old (and odd).

Kurazuka: Seems very good up till now, after 4 episodes I'm still confused about what the anime is about, and what is real and what not :P Really awesome, with all the crossing timelines, flashbacks and dissilusions. ^^
