Playing since 2007.
You have a sandybridge but you have 3 sticks of ram. And wires everywhere!
He probably got a bad stick of ram, he can run it in tri channel ( maybe he accidentally got a triple channel kit too?) I had 8gb of ram, but 4gb of it is sitting in the package came dead. never returned em only $50 ram
No he can't run it in Triple Channel, Sandy Bridge only does Dual Channel. So with 3 sticks, he's actually using Single Channel.

http://quangdo.tumblr.com/post/52336...personal-setup
currently at work, and i don't know off the top off my head what i'm running but here are the generals of my setup:
antec 900 gaming case
gigabyte mobo
intel quad core cpu
patriot 8gb ddr 2 ram
nvidia geforce 9800 gt
using a stock sony keyboard and mouse, nothing fancy - it gets the job done.
"Arguing online is like the special Olympics, even if you win - you're still retarded."The only thing getting in the way of you is yourself.
Case: Antec Nine-Hundred (1st-gen, ca. 2008. Cannibalized from my old machine.)
Motherboard: ASUS P8H67-M PRO/CSM (REV 3.0), Micro ATX Intel H67
Processor: Intel Sandy-Bridge Core i5-2500K, 3.3 gHZ (3.7 gHZ Turbo-Boost), w/ Zalman CNPS11X heatsink (I'm paranoid about overheating PCs after my ancient AMD-based computer nearly killed itself from overheating during the Summer months)
RAM / Memory: 2 x Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB DDR3 1333
Power Supply: Corsair CMPSU-750TX 750W (Thinking about going Crossfire in the near future.)
Video Card: ASUS EAH-6870 Radeon HD6870, 1 GB DDR5 memory (Crossfire-ready model)
Hard drive: Western Digital Caviar-Black, 1 TB
Media drive: HP BD-240I-H1 Blu-Ray reader, DVD Burner.
Monitor / TV: Samsung P2770-HD 27-inch HDTV, hooked up via DVI. Runs always at 1920 x 1080, 60 Hz.
Speakers / Headset: Astro A-40 Audio System (2011 Edition), hooked up via SP DIF.. (I plan to maybe use my old Philips stereo as a set of external speakers.)
Keyboard: Razer BlackWidow, non-backlit. Also have an older MadCatz Cyborg keyboard I use in case of emergencies.
Mouse: Razer Naga. Also Have a Razer Mamba and Razer Lachesis.
Gamepad / Controller: Razer Onza Tournament Edition. (Also used on my Xbox-360).

That's....quite sad, considering the colossal differences in temperature/architecture of Sandy Bridge compared to AMD (or any older-generation CPU really) and the fact that you have a CNPS11X....what's the point of having that kickass heatsink and a 2500K? You could easily get to 4.5ghz without breaking 65c at the highest.Processor: Intel Sandy-Bridge Core i5-2500K, 3.3 gHZ (3.7 gHZ Turbo-Boost), w/ Zalman CNPS11X heatsink (I'm paranoid about overheating PCs after my ancient AMD-based computer nearly killed itself from overheating during the Summer months)
You can atleast get to 4.1-4.2 without even touching the voltage, cmon man do it -_- it's as easy as typing in "42" in the multiplier box -_-

This too, I heard some AMD chips had a 65-70c limit wtf??Though the massive difference in max tolerable temperature would play a role.
