Cat and bear symbols

Does anyone know what the symbol/crescent on the shoulder of the cat and (similar one) on the bear forms? I've been curious for awhile and finally decided to look into it. I did some google and forum searches and didn't find anything. Does anyone know what they mean/if they are lore related, or are they just symbols for like "feral cat" or something? Or maybe they just are cosmetic. Thanks!

Druids draw their power from the moon so it would be my guess that would just be a symbol of the moon.

No, all races draw on the power of the moon, as druids.

They may draw on different god/goddesses, but they all are considered the god/goddess of the moon for the respective race.

And the sun is the other! for the Sunwalkers :P

But i dont think the symbols mean to much. I think its mostly just cosmetic to show there druids.

Thanks guys! I had a feeling it was more cosmetic after nothing popped up on wowwiki and stuff about it. But even if it's only a cosmetic feature, you guy's suggestions for it in relation to their history make sense too.
