I'm not a native English speaker so i want to apologize if my language sounds a bit "foreign" sometimes.

How to come along with others Players - The 10 "Be"s for a enjoyable game experience

I was inspired to write this guide by all those flamers and idiots out there, who make people playing videogames look like unfriendly nerds. Thank you.

First i want to say, that this is not objective at all and just seen from a subjektive position. So if you don't agree with me, don't hate me, just do what you think it's right, because that's most important.

0. Communication

As in every online game World of Warcraft offers a integrated chat for communication with other players. It is often misused for spamming or flaming, but actually it can be kind of useful. So everything that follows up needs you do be able to communicate with other people in a proper way. This means you are meant to use a language that can be understand by common people, not too much abbreviations and a bit of grammar can be useful.

1. Be Friendly

WoW is a game, but for many people it's a hobby like for example soccer. So if you come together to play soccer with some people, you actually say "hi" and "goodbye" because you want to be recognized as a nice guy probably.
This doesn't just mean you have to greet other people when entering an instance with the dungeon finder tool, it also includes not throwing around swearwords if somebody doesn't act like you would do in his situation.

2. Be Honest

There are some things which make other players exceptionally angry in WoW. One of those things is if somebody lies about his skills or his experience. Wiping on a boss three times is no shame and part of the game. You wouldn't want a game in which you can defeat anything on the first try. It would be boring and no competition at all. But it's just annoying if one player does the same error again and again without knowing what he actually does wrong, because he wasn't honest enough to tell everybody that he doesn't know about the boss mechanics.
Or imagine a different situation. The tank tells you to interrupt a certain spell. But you don't know which one of the enemies actually casts that spell. It's just a matter of seconds to ask if he can further explain what he intends you to do.

3. Be Forgiving

If anybody does something wrong, don't attack him personally in an instant. Try asking about what went wrong first. There are all kinds of players, many of those just don't have the time to play that much. Some are just not that good in playing video games at all. Don't blame them. Everyone who bought the game has the right to play it. It may delay your own progress, but if you don't want to depend on other players just play a single player game. It's the same for real life sports, if you're not good at trusting other people and being in a team, play tennis or something you're doing alone.
Many new players are intimidated by those who seem to know exactly what they're doing. Don't go to hard of them. Everybody did his first raid somewhen, just think back how you acted when you had no idea about the game at all.

4. Be willingly to help

As an experienced player you may often notice what others do wrong. This could start with bad itemization, having the wrong gems in sockets or missing some enchantments. Just don't hate them for not being the perfect player from the beginning. If you just ask them about their reasons they may answer in a kind way withouth being aggravated. Try to share your knowledge, give some advice about talents, glyphs and rotation.
Don't flame people who ask about their classes in the trade channel. They might just not know about what they're doing wrong. They might just not know about common sources of information for guides and stuff like that. Of course they could use google, but if you have no clue, you might just not know where to begin searching at all and can't differentiate bad from good advice.

5. Be calm

Don't get upset by everything that doesn't happen as it should. It will benefit your own health. Don't spam stuff like "OMG" everytime there is a wipe or somebody pulls a random group of adds.
Everything you want to say can be said in a kind and understandable way without already attacking someone in a personal way, like challenging his intelligence.

6. Be concentrated appropriately

The game is designed to offer various levels of challenge. It's just like everydays work, some stuff needs more concentration than other. If you're just fooling around, doing some daily quests, farming ingredients or leveling it is absolutely ok if you're listening music, eating, calling your girlfriend or whatever you want at the same time. On the other side, if you're participating in difficult raid content, everybody else expects you to focus on what you're doing. You may always actually need two hands to kill the lich king. Don't play raids or heroic instances if you're drunk or fatigued, wait until you're fit again and you won't mess with other people who depend on your perfomance.

7. Be patient

Mostly there's no price for doing something as fast as possible. If you're together with other people don't rush everything because you're short on time. If you are you may just wait for your daily heroic until you have a few more minutes to spare. It just doesn't benefits everything if you're pulling the next pack of monsters before the last one of the previous pack went down. There will be time to regenerate health and mana, targets for crowd controlling can be marked and cooldowns will be available again. Moreover, people who aren't sure if they know what to do don't even have the chance to ask. Being hectic just gets your group killed and your healer angry most of the time.

8. Be not greedy

As in real life there is no success without working for it. Sometimes this means you have to do something you don't like first. If you want to marry your girl you should buy her some hell of a ring first. If you want to kill deathwing you also can't expect to just walk in there and kick his ass. Unfortunately most of the stuff costs a lot of gold, like enchantments of gear. Well actually other people don't just have this stuff, they also worked for obtaining it. So you have the choice, you could level your own char with disenchanting or you could just pay someone for doing it. It's your decision what to do, but it's important that you do. Your equipment consists of more than just the items you got. An item with no gems and enchantment is just not complete. It's like you got the best piece of meat there is and you just eat it raw without barbecueing it because you don't want to spend money on gas.

Or imagine another situation. You're in a team of 5 people and you want to climb a mountain faster than the other groups. Everybody bought a nice pair of hiking shoes, but you were to greedy and went out with your sneakers. No everybody has to wait for you because you're feet are aching and you're finishing second place while you could have fun. The other people might blame you, because you could have performed better without much effort just by spending a bit money.

9. Be eager to learn

You won't make any progress if you're not willing to listen to advice others might give you. It is not guaranted that your style of playing is the best there is. If somebody tells you that yo could to a lot more damage if you would use this other spell or reforge your crit to haste, don't be angry because you got lectured. Be thankful, it isn't for your damage after all. It helps you doing better as much as it helps the whole group perfoming in a better way. Even if it's bad advice there's no reason to not listen to it once. The game can't be soloed and even the creators might not know how the classes work out best in the end.
You don't have to be a theory crafter who spends hours on numbers just to increase his dps further, but if everybody else tells you that you chose the wrong talents, you should start to believe them and learn from your own errors.

10. Be human

After all everybody is a human being behind his screen and not a machine. All those people have emotions, so just act like a human for yourself. Some people feel really bad if they do something wrong because they don't do it on purpose. If you're enjoying other people feeling bad about what they've done you should probably overthink your life instead of playing a game which involves interacting with other people.
