although this is actually not so much a question of understanding, but just a simple rule to know:
every number ^ 0 is always 1. 5^0=1.
every number ^ 1 is always the number itself. 5^1=5.
every number ^ 2 is the number multiplied one time with itself. 5^2=5x5=25.

see? it's pretty simple :P

that's also how digital bits work:
2^7=128, 2^6=64, 2^5=32, 2^4=16, 2^3=8, 2^2=4, 2^1=2, 2^0=1

No, not little pancakes (though i love crepes). Its Let's Play. Basically, its a very unknown art of recording yourself playing a video game and doing commentary over it. A lot of the LPs that i have watched are cool so i decided to give it a whirl.

i'd have prefered the pancakes, but.. have fun!^^
