    I think they may be underwater spears or tridents? I don't know.

    I don't think they'd be underwater spears, since there's no tridents or harpoon guns included in those sets.

    I'm thinking the concept art may just be old, and they at one time were planning to have spears/polearms as standard on-land weapons.

    edit: I also expect to see new weapon types released in the occasional expansion.

    @Expansion part. Yes, that's actually very very likely to happen.
    @Polearms, this could actually be something NPC could be using.

    Actually, the weapons sets shown above (the first one and the yellow and red one) are pretty recent, released on the artist's blog at the end of December.

    Ah, ok. I wonder why the more recent art works still have them.

    Just because they were released recently does not mean they were created recently.

    In fact, I'd be very surprised if they're still just creating the concept art for weapons. I would hope they have all that pretty much done by now, if not actually converted into in-game models by now.

    I remember them talking about underwater weapons including spears, harpoons and tridents. Don't quote me on that, though.

    I just got done watching some G-star videos that I hadn't seen before, and it got me hyped again. Funny how a little bit of gameplay footage can sate your boredom. I'm going to go play GW1 now, heh.

    As far as we know, those are the 3 weapons that are used underwater. Would be strange if they would suddenly add another weapon during the beta, with new skills.

    spears=melee
    trident=magic
    harpoon gun=ranged

    Okay, I have a few questions. It's about content for "hardcore" players (for lack of a better term). Since DE's are designed to be doable by whoever happens to be there, they obviously can't be too difficult.

    The only instanced areas are Personal Story ones and Dungeons. From what I hear, explorable mode dungeons are pretty tough. Do we know how they compare in difficulty to, say, wow hardmodes? And is there a way to up the difficulty of the Personal Story stuff?

    Really what I'm trying to get at is: What will GW2 have to offer in the way of nailbitingly hard content?
    People complaining about arena queues? Oh, my sweet summer child. What do you know of waiting? Waiting is for the dungeon finder, where the average time is 25 minutes and children are born and live and die all before they find a fucking tank.

    We don't know much about Dungeon difficulty, but as it's meant to be the more hardcore content, I'm hoping it's on par with what Heroic Magister's Terrace was when that first came out in WoW at the very least.

    An elite event boss (the Shatterer) beat the living daylight out of a group of players that stumbled over that event (in an early demo at gamescon 2010).
    This is not WoW where lv.80 PvE open world content is actually easier than lv.3 content. (or a few levels later, I only say Hogger)

    it's hard enough that even some developers couldn't beat it. There was one group at playtests (out of a view) who got through. A second one with developers had to cheat and bring in a 6th player.

    I really hate it when people say shit like this...

    Yes, a lot of DE's will be mind numbing because leveling isn't supposed to feel like you're slamming your head against a wall, but the Elite Dynamic Event Chains (the ones that lead up to Shatterer and Tequatl-esque events) don't have to be easy in the slightest, infact, they can be (and likely will be) just as hard as Heroic Raid content from WoW.

    Well, the DE's scale in difficulty by whomever happens to be there - no reason why it can't be challenging for a single person and scale to be challenging for 10 people.

  19. #11099
    to add to the difficulty of dynamic events:
    I came to the opinion that:
    -) DE-bosses might not be as complex as dungeon bosses
    -) but this does not mean that they will be easy.

    -) and all of this does not mean that there won't be very complex non-static bosses in the open world

    Not true at all. I've seen normal DE bosses one shot people, look here for an example:

    Watch from 1:50 if you want to cut to it specifically. Also, you can continue watching after he dies, he goes into an area where centaurs have taken over and it's no walk in the park, damage gets dished out quite quickly and at the end he's starting to get overrun by 4-5 centaurs.
