Division and multiplication have the same weight, so if it comes down to those two, you work from left to right. The answer is one.

  5. #85
Remember, people, 2(3) does not get the priority other things in brackets get because only the 3 is in brackets. 2(3) =/= (2*3). Left to right takes priority here, the answer is 9.

people are forgetting to re-apply pemdas after each step of the equation >.>

you dont just run through it, you re-apply it to each subsequent step.

    A better way of writing this would be using a division line;

    6
    ---------
    2(1+2)

    6
    ---
    6

    = 1

Anyone that doesn't realize this should go back to school and learn to shorten parentheses.
    This guy tells the truth

    The answer is 9.

you do whats in the brackets first giving you 3.

    6/2 = 3

    3x3 = 9.

    BIDMAS - always follow it

Incase you don't know what it means - Its a priority order you do in maths

Brackets, Indices, Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction.

    Simples

Multiplication and division have the same weight, so you would work left to right. the answer is 9. Best not to write 'simples' when you're wrong.

    omg.. 9
    6/2(1+2) = 6/2*3 = 3*3 = 9
First you do calculations inside parenthesis, THEN YOU DIVIDE, then you multipy..
    math's not that hard people..

the internet makes the kids dumb.

The math is like 3rd grade, and this shows how the school system fails to teach math.

    It goes as following:

First you do the paranthesis, so: 1+2 =3
Then you do the devision: 6/2 =3
And theres no + / - * between 6/2 and (1+2), so that means you have to mulitply, and the result is 3*3 = 9.

    Simple.

At first I thought it was 9, I looked at it like 6/2 * (1+2)
    but its basically 6/(2*3)
__6__ is the best way to read it.
    2(1+2)
No, you are thinking 6/[2(1+2)], which is not 6/2(1+2), and all the people who got one are doing it like this, and that is wrong there are no ( )'s around that function

    6/2(1+2)=6/2+4=3+4=7
