    Indeed the jet engine analogy is no joke. My 6870 on 30% fan speed is barely audible, anything above that it becomes bothersome. At 100% its as other has said. Totally not recommended unless you have a decent pair of headphones. Even then...

    On system boot my 4870x2 which used the AMD stock cooler, would spin up to 100% for a 3-4 seconds. Sometimes I even said "We have a liftoff"

    I had a 4890 that was like a leaf blower I didn't own it for very long rofl

    I used it for almost 2 years, then it died
    Idle at 78C, load always at 94C.

    I opened the casing to take a look inside, the 2 heatsinks where smaller than the standard 2500k HSF...
    These days we have heatsinks covering the whole card for 1 GPU :P

    -edit- Funny note. I looked up some benchmarks and apparently the 4870x2 is on par with the 6950. It just can't do DX11 features :P

    Yeah if I played Crysis on my 4890 it would shut off because the VRM's hit 127C

    Hm, I had that problem at 95C already. Happened like 5 times in total though. And for how much time I used that card, for normal use it would've been 5 years old or something :P
