Oh ok...you're just as far out there as the other guy. So we now have a battle of uninformed extremism. Lovely.

And now you're gonna give examples of crappy MMOs who claim to have millions of accounts, starting with Fail Wars 2, ofcourse, as the usual spearhead of crappy examples.

Starconflict, Path of exile, GW1/2 (b2P), Age of conan, Swtor, Rift, Lotro, Aion, Nwo, Tera, Dragon prophet, Vindictus, Ps2, warframe, defiance, firefall... ect ect ect.
Pretty much the entire MMO genre is F2P or B2P. There's only 2 subscription MMOs that have been successful in the west over the long term.

...and which one is the successful one ?! Except Rift, that one was actually good for a good while. Ofcourse it went f2p once it lost most of its playerbase, proving that only crappy MMOs ever go f2p, and ofc MMO that aren't worth a sub in the 1st place so no point asking for one.

All of them are successful - what didn't hold your interest for too long does not mean they are not successful, it just means you didn't like them.

Um... All of them? They made enough money to not only go on for years and years, they come out with content pretty regularly.

Rift willingly went F2P - they didn't have problems like AoC or SWTOR and gained customers.

That is an opinion for some. Just because they are not subscription doesn't mean they are not good.

Really? This is what you came up with? Half of the games are p2p turned f2p because they weren't worth a sub (means they are unsuccessful MMOs right there) and at least two are not even MMOs (Warframe, Path of Exile), maybe all the meat is in "etc"? Give us the full list.

It just means they were not worth a subscription, doesn't mean they are not great games or successful.

They give a rating out of 5 stars and state if they are poor or high quality and the population.

You were given a list, don't make excuses after 2 posts :l

Also your opinion doesn't mean a game is unsuccessful as a whole, just for you.

Their servers are up and running, making enough money to put out new content, and have enough players to continue doing so.

That's success.

edit: This is the most fundamental definition, anything more becomes increasingly subjective and arbitrary.

No that's not success. That's profit. Even 1$ profit is profit. But hardly success.
Don't resort to "fundamental definitions" you know what successful means pretty well, don't turn this into a definition fest..

That's really what it comes down to though.

Everyone defines success a different way and then we argue about it for pages and pages.

If I get regularly content updates for a game I find fun in a community where I don't have to try hard to form groups... That's all I need for a game to be successful because that's all I want out of a game.

Regular content updates + enough players that I can group easily.
