    Team Fortress 2

No Team Fortress 2 thread on the first page? Outrageous! Here I fixed this for you.

How many people here, who play WoW also play TF2? One of my friends said that in the guilds he's in, many people play MOBA (LoL, HoN) - a PvP RPG/RTS. Which is similar to WoW in the sense that it's essentially the battle of characters rather than players. While TF2 is also a class-based two-team game, it's still less based on character stats, gear and leveling, and more on personal player's skills.

I also like TF2 better, compared to the latest generations of "military FPS" games. The game's pacing may appear a little bit slow to a person unfamiliar with it, because of larger health pools/lower damage or seemingly slow movement. But I think it's pretty loyal to the old school FPS games - no health regeneration gives advantage to players who knows the map and can control med kits, and also makes support roles like medic or engineer play a bigger role, than another trooper with a special gadget weapon slot; while run speed of some heavier classes (soldier and demo) is pretty slow, they are actually the fastest classes because of rocket(stickybomb)-jump ability, though you must have a certain skill to do it properly, or you risk find yourself in front of the enemy team on low health; headshots are restricted to sniper weapons (with exception of the Ambassador), so no more spray and pray random headshot kills; oh and no primary automatic fire guns too, also, there are plenty of projectile type weapons, which make you aim and predict the enemy position before you shoot.

Last but not least, though game is almost 4 years old, it's still being updated (currently 245 updates have been released). These updates include new maps, weapons, game types, community features and many more. And all of them are free, and since this June the game itself is also completely free!

So, feel free to discuss your favorite classes, maps, servers, loadouts or post stories from your multiplayer experience. New players are also welcome - ask for advices or tips for your class.
That's why you need me.... Need someone to punish you for your sins.

I play spy a LOT. However I am a madman when it comes to playing demoknight TF2 is probably the most creative shooter out there.

personally? i love payload maps and i despise 2fort

i dont know why, 2fort just is a boring map all the way round... but payload? mmmm

nothing better than popping some stickies near the cart and killing 3-4 bads with one explosion...

or getting behind a bunch of people pushing the cart and backstabbing them all

    muahahaha

I play it on occasion, I only just recently picked it up. Still learning in "Training Offline" and seem to be decent with Sniper, Heavy and Soldier. :3

"seemingly slow movement" what are you talking about? TF2 is twitch shooter to the max. To above^ the offline bots on medium are as good as pub players.

As an ex TF'r (from Quake days, both QWTF and Q3F) and ex FPS'r (again, Quake/Doom/Painkiller/UT) I find the speed of TF2 slugglishly slow. Sure it makes juggling people about with rockets easier but I find it ruins the gameplay of the CTF maps. Valve originally made TFC as a different outtake on the Fortress gametype and focused alot on balancing the game round C+Hold and other types of play rather than CTF and I dislike the effect it had on TF2. Christ, I find CoD more twitchy than TF2.

Try some other FPS's online, or some mods.. Rocket Arena or QuakeLive for example, then you'll probs realise what he means by slow in comparrison.

I play a lot of Team Fortress 2, it's a great game - No getting around it.

This game does have some major balancing issues however, with multiple weapons that are borderline OP, a couple of glitches that are gamebreaking for certain playstyles and one class in particular that has become so dumbed down that I actually feel embarrased to play it.

Furthermore graphical issues are becoming more and more common and the game itself is a mess when it comes to the technical side, which is also why all of these bugs are occurring.

Combine the above things with Valve's current reluctance to make any balance changes is making me play TF2 less and less.

All of this negativity aside, Team Fortress 2 is still a first-class shooter, with iconic, memorable and down right funny characters. The Team Fortress universe and lore is fantastic (Read the comics), the amount of Easter Eggs and fanservice found within the game is also incredible and becomes very apparent when you start taking the game a bit more serious.

While I might've made it sound like the game is unplayable due to OP items, that's no way near the truth. The game is still extremely enjoyable. In short, TF2 is the best class shooter out there and has been for years (In my opinion), there is little reason for you not to try this game as it is now free.

I've always been more into the older fps games such as Quake series and ut, but don't really play them anymore. I play CSS still and everynow and then i'll go play some TF2, i tend to just own everyone with the soldier, so fun just juggling people around as it's so easy due to how slow the game is.

I couldn't play the game for long but when i do play it, it's quite fun for a while

To those that think the game moves slow, play a scout, then get back to me.

I love me some TF2. It comes and goes though. Sometimes I just hop back in to the servers I play on and the same old people are still there. They just never stop playing.

I prefer medic and sniper as my main classes. Pyro and spy are close third. And my favorite map for the longest time was a modded map called The Orange Box. Pretty balanced and fun.

Ahh TF2. While I haven't been playing much in the recent months, I played the hell out of that game. I put so many hours into the Scout. So much fun, but the game is at its very best when you have a neck and neck match. I hate getting into servers and having one side steamroll the other. Makes me wish there were better and forced balancing functions.

I love TF2. =) Haven't played it all that much recently because most of my friends are playing League of Legends right now and it's not as fun to play by myself, but every now and then I'll hop on and play a few rounds. I mostly play Soldier and Pyro, and Engineer if I'm feeling sassy. I like CTF maps the best (except for 2fort. I'll play it, but I'd prefer a different one like Doublecross or something), but anything goes for me, really.

I love TF2, I like all the classes but heres the order they go in. Demoknight, Spy, Soldier, Scout, Pyro, Heavy, Sniper, Engineer, and Medic.
I switch up between all of them based on the game or just what i feel like playing. Maps i prefer payload but if i just want to have some fun smashing faces i will go 2fort.

I'm usually that spy stabbing your Medic

Minepit would have to be my favorite. I don't really have a "favorite class," I just play what the team needs at the time.

Depending on the map/scenario i usually go for the front pushers(soldiers/demo) or back support(snipers/medics). On 2fort since so many people just walk out the front door or off the battlements without looking around i can sit there uncloaked with dead ringer and then stab that soldier and if anyone sees me poof you think im dead

Fantastic game , probably my favourite FPS.
Its so unique and has a nice community and the fact new stuff is constantly added makes the game feel fresh.

There are so many things i love about the game when compared to other FPS's:

-It actually requires teamwork unlike other FPS's , team comp is very important and so is communication.
-Class persona , this is sooo unique and i love it, the fact each class has their own quotes and domination lines, spy has the best easily which is why i love him so much more.
-Class differentiation unlike COD where weapons are copy and paste, each class has a specific role and weapon.
-Graphics are very good, the style is for all but it is pulled off very well

Games like COD just don't compare as they are so generic in FPS's where there's no team play and its all about kill streaks, whereas TF2 is about teamwork and communication which is why it has an amazing community

Oh god... My favorite fps ever. Getting in to soldier more, but I think I might try pyro after the next update if the reserve shooter update goes through.
Besides that I usually play demoman, spy, or medic.

For spy, the enforcer, conniver's kunai, and dead ringer all work really well together. The dead ringer eliminates the enforcer's downside, while mitigating the kunai's. I have had some pretty fun killsteaks with it.

Demoman, either demoknight with loch and load, eyelander, and chargin'targe, or normal with loch and load, stock sticky, and caber.

Medic, crusader's crossbow/amputator set, and whichever medigun is needed for the moment.

Some of the combinations can be absolutely brutal, but have major downsides.
The major one to think of here is pyro, degreaser/flaregun/axtinguisher, the degreaser gives a very fast weapon switch to take advantage of weapon combinations, and the flaregun and axtinguisher have just about perfect synergy with it. Airblasting a target to get a predictable flare after lighting with the degreaser will give an instant kill on low health classes, while the axtinguisher will kill all but the heavy in one whack (Given they are on fire). Downsides is that you don't have a lot of power against enemy pyros, and you can't do jack shit in water. The reserve shooter could fix both these problems if available to the pyro, and can still be used with the airblast.

    Some fun setups.

Love playing TF2, mainly play as soldier, scout or medic but i've been messing around with other ones a bit recently. Favourite map has to be Egypt for me, or when i just feel like some chaos then insta-spawn 2fort is always good
