40k DPS? Who are these people and where?

So, I skimmed through the hunter forum earlier and read some regular "Fix my DPS" thread, when I read it again, a post a long the lines of "10k DPS should be instantly kicked from heroics. Decent DPS does 40k there and actually let's kick anyone below 20k."

Thing is... I've never seen it. Ever. Best DPS I ever saw in a ZA/ZG pug was a Warlock, burning at 31k on bosses and 27k or so overall. Usually, I see DPS doing between 16k and 18k. When I see a DPS past 20k, he's already in itemlevel 370 gear or higher.

Other thing is if decent DPS does 40k, by low of averages and bell curve, there should also be DPS doing more than that. Say 45k or so. And if you substract the 15% bonus you're still around numbers that have only been achieved and logged in 25H FL fights.

So where are all these top of the line DPS? Is my realm-pool simply on the weak side or are people just full of it?

EDIT: Should clarify. I am talking about overall damage, boss damage is usually higher. That's when I see ranges from 20-26k.

EDIT2: Should also clarify: I am really not doubting you 390 FL heroic gear people pulling these numbers. But that kind of equipment is not commonplace in my PUGing experience.

Nope it's there a guidly easily pulled 37k yesterday in BH and that wasn't really trying I think as it was a PuG

Most people who make these claims and say these things you heard are little kids talking out of their asses, most of them. Then there are those who have heroic fl-gear and actually know what they do that may be able to pull thosse numbers. I'd love to group with that kid who said that decent dps should do 40k in zandalaris, lol. And dont believe everything you read here without actual logs and armory info provided. And check those logs for duplicated damage if it seems abnormal.

40kdps is not unusual for a raid setting.

In a 5man, there would have to be some gimmick.

He's right about the second part though, below 20k singlet target generally shows you are very undergeared(like cheating the gearscore check for LFD tool) or you are bad/not trying.

I know some people who are geared up in 380 gear or around, they can pull a decent 27-31k DPS stable on fights like Baleroc or Shannox HC. However I have not encountered alot of those who can pull over 40k, maybe if you get BiS gear, or close to that. You won't see alot of those people though. In instances it aint possible for sure (without the 15% buff).

BH Isn't ZA. It also has a strong AOE component which ramps up damage significantly. Also depending on the raid dps, someones heroism could be a larger percentage of the fight and it can seem like their dps is even better. It just means their dps didn't have time to 'settle' to what it really is.

If someone is doing 20k in ZA/ZG I'm happy enough. If someone is doing less then a tank, then I am bothered. (And I mean specifically for boss fights, trash some tanks can be a little OP with AOE)

40k in HCs is possible, with heroism, flask, food, buffs etc if the whole group is amazingly geared and the boss dies really fast.

Hell I did 43k on Coren (Enha Shaman)

um, my warrior has done 40k dps in za/zg before. pop deathwish and recklessness get someone to hero and the boss dies so fast i have inflated dps.

If you cant do at least 20k dps, something is wrong. i had all jp gear with a couple boe's (366 ilvl) on my enh sham and did 27k dps on 3 different bosses.

Arcane mage on short fights says hi. Whilst not a hunter, it's entirely possible to do that much damage, depending on the fight etc.

Most people running Zandoms are trying to gear up, and everybody isnt as fantastic as you and easily pull 25k+ in greens. Dont make silly claims. ;-)

Did 55k with my Demo-Warlock on Akil'Zon, luckily i wasn't grabbed by birds or anything, also the fight lasted roughly 40 seconds :P Guild-Groups rule!

5 man heroic fights are very short, so all of your DPS cooldowns have a higher uptime %.

For example you may have BL for 50% - 75% of fight depending on the boss.

Well, that's not true, I've personally blown up Jan'alai (ignoring adds completely) and did 76k, needless to say it was my cooldowns burst and I had everything but the 15% buff, but it is very possible.

Your not the only one who wunders who and where these people are i have yet to see any in any pug or raid i have been in iv seen 32k but that was my paly on a realy good fight where i didnt have a single missed proc, i tbh think that most are just bull-s*****g plane and simple and befor any posts of your recount I know full well how easy it is to fake.
chances are if they do exist there on some Privet server, or they are in full FL hero gear and criting poor old ilidan or something.

i know what the op means, i rarely do more than 16 to 17k and when i see people in heroic firelands gear, theyre from 22 to 26k

You can't base off of a "ZA/ZG pug", they don't have all the raid buffs and players aren't usually trying as hard.
