    Having some wireless issues.

Having a few issues with my wireless network card.

I was previously using a pants USB adapter that was lucky to get a 2 bar signal to the router. It kept dropping the connection and started to get on my nerves so I decided to buy a network card to improve the signal.

I'm now running with an Edimax EW-7612Pln which gets a 5 bar signal effortlessly but it's giving me a higher ping and slightly slower connection.

With the USB adapter my connection was usually 48-56Mbps and I would play wow with a 40ping to home and 40ping to world, with my 2bar signal that dropped out quite a bit.
Now I have a 5 bar signal with the card but my connection speed is 24Mpbs which sometimes jumps to 36Mpbs if I'm lucky and only for a couple of minutes at most. This gives me a ping of anywhere between 50-200 depending on the zone I am in. Sometimes the connection is terrible and I have 1000+ ping if it wants to play up.

Does anybody know how I could improve the speed of the connection, or whether I should return the card and get a new one?

I've tried multiple drivers and the problem still persists.
I also would like to know whether the motherboard could be causing an issue. It's a 4-5 year old board and the card takes up the last PCI-E x1 socket. Could that be causing the connection to be restricted because it's an old board?

I did link the card, probably not visible enough but I'll post it here and edit the original post too.

What kind of security do you use on your router? i personally suggest you use WPA2-PSK.

    There isn't one. It's a university wifi connection. (:

Are you using the drivers from the install disk for your wifi card or just the plain windows wifi drivers? i see it often happening that the standard windows drivers do better. either way, try the other set of drivers and see if there is any changes.

Using those ones already, exactly the same speed as I had with the disk drivers.
