    Starcraft 2 Help/advice needed.

So i've recently installed SC2 on my new computer despite never really playing it before. I was wondering if there were any sites out there able to give me tips on Build order, start up strategies etc. Preferably for Terran as i'm still a noob. I'm used to playing C&C generals but this game as an RTS in my opinion is so much different. So, any links or advice would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to become pro, just don't want to suck as hard. Thanks

Check out the Day[9] videos. He is really good and funny. Also, check Terran players playing in a recently tournament (MLG has a lot of tournaments). And last but not least, practice practice practice. Practice is the best thing you can do.

http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Main_Page Is a great site for sc2 information, also I'd recommend watching the Day[9] daily at http://day9.tv/archives/ and search for "Newbie Tuesday" videos, or just put Terran in the search bar to find all of the videos about Terran.

Edit: I take too long to write, you beat me to the punch .

Also, if you can find some friends that play, that are around your skill level or a little higher, practicing with them is probably the best way to get better.

Thanks for the links, but one nooby question i've not been able to see the answer to is, at the start, how many Gatherer units do i want to build before i start to protect the ramp to my base? 10 then build a depot or? cheers once more.

build a depot at 10 what you build after can vary, there are many things to do like Command center before barracks and stuff like that, but i think putting down a barrack at 12 is standard

Generally it's 10 > supply depot. Positioning depends on what your goal is. Remember, walling off is a great way to defend yourself for early rushes, however it also creates a possible bottleneck that can cause some issues moving in and out of your base unless you want to lift your barrack up.

I'd go with team liquid as klydefrogz said. You can get a general idea of what is 'optimal' however as with any RTS, it'd require practice and such.
Look at replays, look at build guides if you're really that competitive, else just play around with the race after getting basics and you'll get a general gist of what you can do, that's about my only advice.

Learn how to macro specifically is one of the key things, so even if you know all the tips and tricks, if you can't perform em it's pointless, and this generally only comes from experience and skill.

He create a new account and play 4 hours of matches explaining everything he do.

Watch the pro-players too, they usually stream on Twitch.tv

Agree watch D-apollo Gives the best Build orders for you to practice in low leagues (and by that i mean all the way up until masters tbh). Just try not to blame balance when you loose, it never is due to balance pre- pro level matchs.

    Watch Day9
    Learn buildorders: http://www.gosubuilds.com/terran-build-orders-2/

Personally I watch montages to get inspiration to keep playing & get better.

Focus on macro in the lower leagues.

Thanks for all the help, Blackdeckers link has given me an insight in what to do despite only watching part 1 so far. Does doing the campaign offer any benefits to going online? Learning what each unit does etc is all i can think of though..

I'd definetly recommend playing the campaign. Obviously it won't make you a pro-gamer, but it helps explain the different units, show what they are good for and it's a pretty good place to learn your hotkeys without the stress that is usually found in a 1v1 game. And the story is quite nice imo - I've played it quite a lot, and the only achievements I'm currently missing are the two related to the Arcade-game.
PS: Not all the units in the campaign are available in the "real" games. Firebats, Vultures, Wraiths, Medics, Diamondbacks, Science Vessels, Hercules' and Goliaths are not available in multiplayer(did I forget some? - oh yea, the auto-turrets and robocats). Basically everything related to Lab-research, armory-upgrades and mercenaries are only available in the campaign.

www.sc2casts.com is currently one of my favorite sites. Lots of good replays every day.

    Hey OP!

I'm a diamond league player on the EU server and I believe if I was bronze and started watching this guy. I would have made diamond much much quicker.

He focuses on all 3 races very nice clear voice along with a great idea of basic - pro level mechanics, watch part 1 on which ever race you want to play. In my opinion watching how all races work is the best way to understanding the game quicker and better.

Hi there i play platinum league on EU, like most people say, learn build orders, stick to one you like vs each race, also very important learn to scout once you start to familiarize yourself with builds it gets a lot easier to scout an predict your opponents moves, then its all down to mechanincs, macro and micro, macro (builds) will progress you a lot faster in the lower brackets. good luck and enjoy, i have been playing SC2 since season 2 or 3, best pvp game i have ever played

You can toggle it to show the hot keys somewhere in the gameplay options.

    Helps a TON.
