    Question Question about SSD

    Hey guys

I got a SSD today for my 1 year old computer that had a 1TB normal HDD in before. I installed the SSD by removing the old HDD, booting up only with the SSD and installing a fresh Windows 7 on it. After the installation I installed drivers, anti-virus and Google Chrome before shutting down and plugging in my old harddrive.

Now when it booted I suddenly see a System Reserved ( D: ) partition. Is this the partiton for the old harddrive? If so, how can I remove it? If it's for the SSD, isn't exactly this supposed NOT to happen when you do a fresh Windows install only with the SSD plugged in?

EDIT: When I go into Disk Management I see two System Reserved partitions. One is just called "System Reserved", the other one is called "System Reserved ( D: )" (which is the one that shows up in My Computer). I'm guessing the last one is for my old harddrive and I can just delete it?

More than likely if you havent cleaned the OS off the original HDD thats where the 2nd system reserved drive is coming from. If you have space left over and that is the only harddrive you have Id do the shrink n partition option on the HDD copy everythign needed/wanted over to the non OS partition and do a format on what was once the OS partition. You can delete the partition of the old HDD from computer management>disk management tool. You dont want to delete the wrong one because it contains boot info and can cause you to not be able to boot. Secondly if you dont like seeing that 100mb partition sitting there you can use disk management tool and unassign the drive letter and its still there you just wont have to see it.

Ah, great. I dont mind it being there, its only 100mb, so I just unnasigned the drive letter. Thanks!

I'm about to format my old OS partition but don't exactly know whether I should pick Quick Format or just Format. What do you recommend? Also, it asks about Allocation Unit Size. Should I just leave it to Default?

Quick format works just fine and normally unless you plan on making multiple partitions the default value is adequate.

I plan on merging it after the format with the other partition I have on that HDD (a partition I used for music, films etc)
