$500k? Obscene money?
That's barely anything considering how much money flows in and out of modern media.
"United Nations – Nigeria is placed 156 out of 187 countries in a new UN study, which ranks countries on their education, income and life expectancy."
Yes, it's obscene, considering that. The money could've been spent wisely.
"pennies a day can save a child in africa"
literally THOUSANDS of children's lives could have been turned around with that money... this isn't just about the absurd amount of money thrown around in US media... this is about money that COULD have stayed within the local government and been spent on necessities that are being outsourced to foreign humanitarian funds...
Although, I just gotta say.. props to Kim for taking that email from the Nigerian Prince seriously and getting her half million dollars. I'm still waiting on mine. =/
the promoters of the event likely wouldn't have spent it on anything else worth while. They were also charging the equivalent of $649 US dollars for a ticket to the event. It was an event for the rich, and as with any event of that type it would have large amounts of money spent to get celebrities to show up.

can a free marketeer tell me she did 500 000 dollars worth of work in that 45 seconds?
Even if she did it for free, how much of that 500k would make it to the people "starving on the streets"? Probably none of it, so in the end, it doesn't matter, right?

If you wanna talk about morals, then the bad guys here are the buyers, not the "sellers".
These $500,000 dollar appearances only work as long as people pay for them, people stop paying for it, people stop doing it, it's the same with any product, as long as there is a demand, there will be a supply. Simple as that.
I just wonder where these money will be spent, will it be used to buy products within the country, which is a good thing as that will give money to the people, or will it be used to buy products outside of the country.
So? She should do everything for free just because she has money? Why don't you invite her to your birthday party and see if she goes to some random event for free. Why should she be expected to go to any random event for free just because she has money? If she was going to that event anyways you might have a point over her being paid such a large amount.
But the only reason why she went to that event was because she was paid to do it. So why shouldn't she be paid to fly half way around the world to go to an event she doesn't care about or wouldn't normally attend? If you had over a million dollars would you just fly to any event someone asked you to attend for free? If you did you'd quickly be broke.

He didn't say she was contributing to society. He said "She's clearly worth it.". Meaning she is clearly worth the money she was paid or else she wouldn't have been paid it. Things are only worth what someone is willing to pay or trade for.
And get off of your high horse. There are plenty of fucked up things about this world. Even overly judgemental assholes who think they're better than everyone else because they're enlightened and everyone else is fucked.

I am most certainly not better than everyone else, or even the average Joe. I'm quite under that level. If you're done attacking me, maybe we can discuss the matter of morals in spending money nowadays. Money that could be spent on things like... clean water, food, meds and stuff like that.
The only thing that's fucked around here is that people keep throwing out this line about things 'really worth the price people are paying'.

The event was $649 US. None of the money regarding anything to do with that event would have been spent in better places. The organizers of the event didn't have to choose between a celebrity or clean water though. It isn't bad morality to spend money on things other then charity.

I like how many people stand up for this two-bit hookah. Her and her family should rot. Morons who stick up for her are the reason why people like her and the amazing "snooki" get on television and famous.. I would rather watch the life and times of the moron who sings the Burger King song
If people are starving in the street and you throw away $649, honestly, I think that is bad morality. Ignoring the suffering of others so blatantly is distasteful.
You shouldn't feel obligated to give up everything you have, but paying $649 to see Kim Kardashian for 45 seconds when you're in a country full of people that desperately need money? I know I'm exaggerating, but come on. That kind of wealth gap just can't be justified.
