How cozy is it to play a Rogue?

Hi guys!

I am a long time player, and I also kind of liked the Rogue, but I never played one. I here and then of course leveled, but I never experienced any highlvl content or even day to day life as at any kind of current or past max levels.

In other games, I almost about always play the Rogue archetype, because sneaking and stabbing the of people is just my style! In WoW tough, I always knew, when the leveling is over, the sneaky stuff is over, and I can SS my enemies to death, which was always a letdown for me.

But then again, I never really tried! So I have a couple of questions I could narrow down to simple sentences, but I fear it would be misread as a DPS question or minmaxing thing, which it is totally not!

How is the life as a Rogue? Especially, when not veryyyyy good equipped. Is it exhausting to kill mobs and advance in Pandaria's open world endevours? Do you need to eat a lot between fights? I am coming from the standpoint, where I enjoy the relaxing life of a DK or Paladin, while not liking those classes from the feeling.

Can you explain, how it is? Maybe with insights on how it MIGHT be with WoD?

BTW: Telling my how shit, broken, or underpowered this class (if it is or not) is really not what I am looking for.

Edit1: I am also quite interested how it is to solo old content and stuff. And not from the perspective what is possible, because I saw that thread. It is more like "Is it fun to walk around and just kill everything?" (like is with a Hunter and Barrage?! (so see where I come from))

Its pretty fun tbh. I think the best thing we have is stealth, having the option to run past/sneak past mobs is just awesome. We have a few cool abilities like shadowstep, evasion and cloak of shadows, the latter 2 making you pretty invulnerable to auto attacks and spell dmg. Killing mobs inst a difficult job for rogues we can self heal with recuperate and with it glyphed it heals more the separate specs make dispatching mobs simple and straight forward. The only annoying thing is with Subtlety which requires to be behind the mob to do most of your dmg. However i assume with our multiple stuns from abilities and our poisons you could keep the mob stunned enough to kill them. Well you cant really talk about rogues and not mention dmg. Our dmg is pretty good currently with gear, at lower levels its a bit harder but with decent weapons you shouldn't have too many difficulties. Assassination is a cool rogue spec based on poisons which has decent dmg on multiple targets.


TLDR; Its fun, nice ultility and high dmg.

Recuperate seems to be quite underwhelming thou, or isnt it? Do you dodge lots of stuff by nature?

Well recuperate is better than nothing and will save you in a pinch. It heals me for about 15k i think at max level which isnt alot but its like most mobs auto attack in lower areas. I have around 28% dodge which is nice but evasion give you 100% which can be reset so you can use it twice in a row. If things look dicey and you might die a quick vanish is really handy too.

I agree. It is fun. It has good damage, survivability and reasonable self healing now. Rogues can solo almost everything pre-Cata if you like farming.

Stealth is amazing and we look seriously sexy in a lot of armour sets

We have a lot of fun abilities. Evasion and Cloak. We have good stuns still and Paralytic poison does not share DRs with other stuns. Marked for Death is amazing for soloing and kill stuff quick. We still have Killing Spree which is maybe the most fun Rogue ability, along with Shadowstep, Vanish, Sprint and Shadow Blades.

It is great fun.

You can avoid 90% of all fights, if you want. Thats confortable. But if you need to kill something big, either bring big knives or prepare to use all skills you have.

pick pocketing was kinda fun pre-mop when you could find many cool(dices!) or funny items. But Blizzard destroyed a lot of Rogue fun and PP is only about some extra money...

but still playing Rogue is cool because of stealth and abilities that allows you to be "untouchable". Rogues got a lot of freedom during playing but fighting(solo) with stronger opponents is a bit more challenging and requires more thinking and concentration.

Playing a rogue always felt extremely safe. You can escape from any possible situation. You can always avoid combat and sneak trough mobs you don't want to fight. Rogues are also good levelers these days.

I have to be honest with you :-) ive been playing Rogue from the beginning of wow.. Leveling a Rogue is pretty dreadful :-( especially without BoA's, as Rogues are gear dependent and have slow energy regen till high level.. Id go sub for bust (fastest imo) and just stick it out till end level.. About food, if you rotate your defensives and use recup it should be fine :-) but i'll advice you to level First aid. Hope this helps!

My rogue is 86 now, actually I found the leveling very fun, its the only class with I enjoy staying at one place and just kill everything, because of Cloak and Dagger and Deadly Momentum.

Leveling is also convenient now, because the rogue really kills fast mobs in lower levels, almost 1 or two hits them. While that doesnt present a challenge, it doesnt give you a picture or how it will be at 90.

Yeah the armor sets! But as a Horde player I felt it very challenging to pick a race for me. My rogue is an UD female now, but I usually take male characters. It just didn't seem to fit very well. So, I'm happy, but there is always the 'why do I play a gal?' question in my head. Well maybe the new models will give me new options!

Really happy to see that much positive stuff about Rogues! Cant wait to come home and continue leveling

Rogue is the class I have always enjoyed the most, simply put. My newest favorite ability being shuriken toss And if you happen to be on a pvp realm, nothing better to have than stealth.

This. So much this. I cant stop to randomly sap guys until DR and then blind. And a bit later sap them again. It is so funny to see how much they freak out. Also, you can score a few easy kills on ppl not prepared or not so good at pvp as combat with ambush>rvs>ss>full kidney>KS>AR and thats it.



I am somewhat geared now (558 or so) but it is super easy to kill stuff since lower ilvl. Just go Sub, cloak and dagger, subterfuge and deady momentum. Open with cheapshot, ambush, garrote, evis and gg

I really enjoy my rogue. I like having a way to drop combat, I love having stealth and being able to cc mobs around elites/rares so I can kill them before the mobs come out of cc. The talent that reduces damage by 50% for a target after a stun is amazing both for leveling and at max level questing/timeless isle type things. Leaching poison is enough to keep me alive most of the time and when it isn't it's easy to pop a recup which only gets better and better as you gear up. I play assassination, because I just can't get into combat or sub these days. For casual/medium tier play it's competitive and fun.

just a quick one: with which spec did you level?

Its not exhausting to kill mobs, you just can't run into mobs randomly and expect to kill them quick. You need to utilize stealth/openers effectively. Also if you have recuperate up, you shouldn't need to eat between mobs.

I only ding'd 90 3 days ago on my rogue and for pve im loving it BUT pvp sucks big time......
