    i7-4790K worth it for Gaming+Streaming/Multitasking

Long story short, thinking about handing down my current gaming PC's CPU+Motherboard to my little brother and buying myself a new CPU/Motherboard.

I currently use an overclocked i5-3570K @4.5 GHz. At the time I bought it, there really was no reason for me to spend $70 more for the i7-3770K, which basically extra $$$ for a slighter higher clock and hyperthreading.

Fast-forward to today and I start mucking around with twitch streaming, first thing I noticed was: damn, streaming at 1080p is CPU intensive, which is very detrimental when I'm playing games such as Guild Wars 2 that are very CPU bound.

However, I'm honestly not sure how much hyperthreading will actually help in that scenario.

I should also mention that I tend to multitask a lot with my six monitors and I do program heavily in Visual Studio 2013 for work.

Really, all this boils down to: is the i7-4790K worth the $70? (only $70 extra cause I live just a mile away from a Microcenter)

If there is just a 10% improvement, it'll be worth it in my book; I'm not exactly hurting for cash right now, and all I'd be replacing is the motherboard and CPU.
    Waste not, want not.

Deal is before it wasn't worth it, same Mhz. But now, the new i7 is 500Mhz above with turbo at 4.4 at ALL cores. Also noone ensure's you will get 4.4 MHz with the i5. Might be mediocre chip and can go max 4.1-4.2 if not less. So if you can afford it i don't see the reason why not to.

Yeah, I suppose that's what's really about, and very good point about the i7 refresh now being 4.0 GHz (4.4 boost). Completely forgot about that.

Oh and Haswell, pre refresh at least, didn't seem as good overclocker as sandy or ivy. I'd say in general not worth the cost since you got a good occ@4.5 unless you can utilize the i7.

The i7 will benefit you with high multitasking and visual studio. I'm unsure about how multi core can be usefull for GW2, but extra overhead like streaming can be helped by hyperthreading.
Ideally, you may look for some hardware accelerated streaming solution, like shadowplay... depend on your current GPU and the streaming system you use (twitch ?)

I asked myself the same question when I build my (first) game pc last week.
Steam Summer Sale ended last week, and I noticed two games I bought recommended the i7, with Wolfenstein an i7 is even the minimum according to the sysreq on steam.

So I guess i7 is the way to go for any new build?
