im throwing in the sig sauer p320 as my #1 choice followed by the glock 19. both 9mm with soft recoil.

I'd like to learn more about guns, how to use them and maybe purchase one down the line.

Do local gun shops normally offer these kind of courses? Online material for reference would be appreciated too.

I would check online and with a local gun shop. I would also advise that you ask them about current laws. Will help you make an informed choice down the line.

if you do go to a local shop make sure you find an employee who isnt just trying to make a sale and doesnt know jack about the stuff hes trying to sell.

Basically avoid big box stores like academy sports and definitely avoid bass pro.

hickok45 - hes an encyclopedia of firearms, very informative, very likable person, probably one of the most popular firearms youtubers out right now. a lot of people dont like his channel because he isnt some "ultra tactical special forces operator who has seen more war than the syrian refugees" but he is great at explaining the information about the guns themselves. in his channel the guns are the star of the show, not him.

I love hickok45! Such a great channel. I like DemolitionRanch too, but it's not quite aimed at learning about guns. I mean, sometimes it is, but most of the time it's "I wonder what a .50BMG round will do to this watermelon filled with tannerite."

Then how so you feel about the guys in Oregon that is the real 2nd amendment.

Most gun shops do offer that sort of training. Even when they don't, they usually have brochures and such, which will point you to some place that does.
