I don't know anyone who listens to anything like any of this openly.
Thanks for the ad-hominem; it supports your inability to support your argument.

well that only took one post

The ChainSmokers have never let me down. There, I said it openly.
Seriously, they're extremely popular in many venues and are not quite pop music.

Pop is like Kesha, 3OH!3, etc.

I like pop music. I'm generally a cynical person. Maybe that's why I like it. Nice change of pace.
Listening to music that runs completely against my normal state of mind.

Granted, this is just one of several types of music I listen to.
I enjoy rock, alt' bands, hard rock, pop, dance, EDM, trance, spiritual, house.

From doing some DJing and using pop music for a number of sets, I can say people of all kinds listen to pop music and enjoy it. Generally the reaction is "negative" kinda, at the first song or two but after a few, they get into it and end up liking it and coming back to listen again. I think they just feel like they SHOULD be opposed to it .. but realize they actually do like it.

It isn't what I'd call a widely popular genre, but people do like it more than you'd think.

House/Trance/EDM have the biggest showings of listeners/fans and pop music many times isn't a terribly far cry from it, so.

You do understand that pop stands for popular so maybe just get up and go outside and talk to some of these people who like this music. With the internet and social media its very easy to think what you like (this includes me) is the popular thing. I used to think punks, goths, metal heads were weirdos now I know there just in general normal average people like the the majority of people the only difference is they dress differently and listen to different music.

Oh you mean like the majority of the people on earth? They're cool, nothing special.

  7. #7
I dunno. the people I talk to about music tend to be metal heads, classic rock fans, or country music lovers.

I do have one Korean friend who's into K-Pop, if that counts. She's fun. Into comics, gaming, cosplay, fantasy, and is hot, so if she wasn't in a happy relationship already she'd pretty much be my dream girl, heh.

    They are like people.

But they do generally seem to like to be included in the bigger groups, like the pop music group.

All signs point to them being commercial pop.

ChainSmokers are typically listed with house and dance.
Again, pop music is generally Kesha, One Direction, Carly Rae Jepsen, Katy Perry, etc.
Like I said, I've used pop music plenty as a DJ.

If it helps your argument...I've never heard of ChainSmokers, whereas I've heard of all the others you mention. My work forces us to listen to a pop station(I'm fairly sure that's illegal under the torture restrictions but still), they play all those artists you mention, but don't play ChainSmokers.

On the other hand, that song the OP posted sounds pretty much like the garbage the pop station does play, and they wouldn't sound even remotely out of place if they WERE added to the playlist, so maybe they're just a shitty pop band who haven't managed to break out yet.

It's called pop(ular) music because it's popular music, and it's called mainstream because it is mainstream.
From the titles I would'nt have known a single one of your videos, but listening to some I do know most from the radio. I would probably never looking for those videos on youtube on my own, but I also would not change the radio station when those are played. Just easy listening.

That is the most pop song they have in their repertoire. They're definitely dance/house music.

I don't know, the people I know who listen to pop music do it like they do everything else - in the background. It's like the generic soundtrack to life, especially if you've ever worked in an office environment. And for that reason, it tends to be bubblegum and saccharine in nature, with a catchy beat and inoffensive-enough lyrics that no one knows them.

My guilty pleasure. Only listen (hehe and sing) to it when no ones around... ooow cake by the ocean YUM.

Never heard these songs and I don't know if anyone I know listens to this music either.

Almost everyone I know younger than me listens to Hip-hop, Rap and R&B almost exclusively. Those around my age tend to listen to older pop music (late 80s/early 90s) in addition to Rap, Hip-hop and R&B.

Otherwise I wouldn't know what other listen to at all. I am really focused on extreme metal and my close friends tend to share this interest as well.

Funny thing is this was the type of music they would play a lot when I used to work in retail... Used to annoy the hell out of me lol. It all sounded the same and I used to struggle to determine where one song ended to when another started lol.

    1,2,5 is alright,

    3 just sounds horrendous,

4 I skipped to a random part and the lyric was "I live my life like my blood type, be positive" and then I instantly face planted the desk

Yeah, it's that way at my work too(I'm a hotel night manager), and I have the same feelings. Modern "bro-country" stuff is the same way, I might add.
