So far, I think Skorch is in the lead, at level 29 and a few bars off 30.
Anyone know who the next few players are in the list?

Imagine going for """"world first"""" in a game
-that is 15 years old and is getting re-released
-that is in beta and characters will be wiped out so you can do no real progress
Also, cap is 30 as of now.
"world first" beta level 30 - where like 99% of the community can `t participate. yeaahhh.
Obviously any world first race will take place at launch. An invite beta is not a level playingfield. Doubt anyone is really speedleveling atm. Will likely see people start practicing when the whole level range is available.
I agree with everything except "there is no adventure." It's still there...it's just shorter than it used to be since the other stuff you said is true. Maybe it feels less adventure-y because of how easy it is. It's not a grand adventure, or some amazing quest because you just roflstomp everything solo, without ever really needing to get assistance from other adventurers....but it's still an adventure. Like camping in your backyard kind of "adventure."
The time spent leveling is just busywork to delay you from getting to the actual game yeah to make the game last longer. It's throwaway content that's not fun in any way past the first time you do it. Level cap is where the good content and meaningful character progression start.

The size of the world was lost since Cataclysm came out. There were a lot of quests, but the starting point of those quests might have been in completely different zones, that is what created an adventure and the feeling that the world is huge. You were on a mission all the time to do something in a zone that another person in another zone wants.
A good example of this is Swamp of Sorrows for Alliance players, there is no quest hub in the zone, but there are around 10 quests you can get from across the entire world(IIRC there is 1 escort and 1 on-kill quest start mob in the zone itself) that are related to that zone and you can enter SoS and swoop them all up in 1 go, then go turn them in again across the entire world. So when people think that Swamp of Sorrows has no quests for Alliance because there is no hub, they are wrong, there are enough quests for 1 whole level in there, you just have to explore every corner of the world to find those quests.
Post-Cataclysm each zone was turned into equal part alliance and horde questing zones, every quest was located in the zone, there were none, or barely any quests that you got from outside of the zone you were questing in. And that made the world feel small and your adventure felt like a 5-part comic book story which always got reset the moment you outleveled the zone and moved on to the next.
I await to see Athene, to break the record in /played before he probably gets banned and knocked back levels lol
