What kind of bread do you like?

And no, I don't mean money -- so, used non sequential 10s and 20s is not the answer!

The weekend has arrived on my side of the planet, and after the sandwich thread where people expressed misguided opinions about bread, it seems like a good time to follow up and go into more detail about bread. What kind do you like?

Unlike certain goat loving perverts who like sliced supermarket white bread (@breadisfunny), I like Bauernbrot -- a bread with more substance.

Outside of a couple of specialty shops that aren't anywhere near to me, that isn't really an option for me here. That means Bretzel rolls

are out too.

Russian black bread is easier for me to get and it will do.


For more of a snack or breakfast bread, I like Russian rye with walnuts and raisins.

When I was in the hospital, that ended up being one of the only things I could eat.

Unfortunately, they don't sell any of that stuff nearby. If I don't want to endure the horror of Chinese supermarket bread, that leaves me with French bread or cranberry toast.

Look, don't ask me, Bing returns that as an image for Wedome's French bread. I'm afraid to see what cranberry toast would return.

A food thread sort of needs pictures, but I wonder if I should have eaten before trying to make this one.

For as long as I can remember, I've been a big fan of sourdough baguettes: plain, with butter, with cream cheese, with any kind cheese, for sandwiches, doesn't matter - I love that style of bread.

I love all kinds but I don’t eat bread anymore. It makes me sad.

Same, mostly for me because it makes me swell. I can tolerate some flat breads if I take advil but I rather just stay away from it.

I remember fresh out of college, the place I worked took me to a mom and pop place to eat. They kept raving about their bread and here I am thinking "who gives a fuck about bread?" What they served was potato bread and I have yet today found anyone who made potato bread that damn good. Sad they went out of business but also glad because I don't eat bread anymore and this would be the only place that would tempt me.

Just cheap 9 grain Great Value Walmart is good. If I buy any, that is what I try to get. However, if my wife makes the bread, then the new one she found from a unlikely place, is the Hayday bread , from a recipe she found in that game she plays. Only she mixes in some whole wheat flour. The Tuscany bread from Giant Eagle bakery is really good too. But it has a very short shelf life.

I really like sourdough. Although at this cultural festival there was this Ethiopian family selling food on top of a spongey pancake-like bread. It's called Injera and I really loved it~! Soft and springy, sour, flexible, and quite pleasant

Let me help ya out on this one. Some people might not know Injera.

This is the staple bread of Ethiopia. It is traditionally made with teff, a very finely milled millet flour. Regular millet flour from a health food store will work fine. Use this bread to sop up the flavors of spicy stews.

Take you favorite ice cream... let it melt a bit to soften. Mix with self rising flour and bake. If you haven't tried it you are missing out.

I like bread in general so I don't think anything is favorite except maybe sourdough, but I can say I do not like any kind of rye bread.

It's honestly not something i've been too invested into. I like Potato Bread for quick sandwiches. Whole Grain is ok as well. But i've never really gotten into fancy bread. I don't eat enough bread to really have put much thought into it.

I'm pretty boring there. If it's just for a standard peanut butter sandwich or something, I just always keep a loaf of the store brand white bread.

If I'm getting a sub, it depends on what kind of sub. They have some kind of Italian bread at the place where I get them here (it's a deli at the grocery store, not a Subway, but 1000x better than Subway IMO), so if I'm getting an Italian sub, I go with that. I like wheat if I'm getting something with roast beef.

The "ice cream bread" mentioned above here definitely has me interested. That is something I'll have to try.

Any of those mentioned by OP I also love, I am a big break lover, and do often go for more than boring old plain supermarket rubbish.
