    Class Idea: Sorcerer

    The Sorcerer

The reason why I created this idea, is because I love spellcasters. I hope you like it. For those that don't like it.... just don't like it.
The difference for me between a mage and a sorcerer, is that a mage is bending a type of element to their will while a sorcerer is more naturally connected to their school of magic.
Another difference could be that mages learn their ways as a scholar, but sorcerers activate their power by initiating the magic from within themselves.

    General Abilities:
Spell point system of 3 points. The caster can builds up magic to unleash more potent forms of a spell when used, like longer range, longer duration of effect --> dots, channeling, metamorph, etc (I did not steal this idea from d&d … really not ).
Spellpoints can also be used to restore some mana.
A sorcerer is also a metamage, which can blend into a form connected to their school of magic.
So each spec will have a metamorph spell.

    Specs:
    Necromancer, Dragonsworn, Tidesage.

    Necromancer:
    Magic Ranged DPS spec
I chose for necromancy as a spec instead of a seperate class, since otherwise it could be challenging to create a whole new class around necromancers with 3 specs without touching to much of the DK or Warlock. In this way, people can still play necromancer with less overlap.

    Specialty – Undead Minions:
Summon Skeletons: Standard attack force. Quantity depending on spellpoints used.
Summon Ghoul: A minion that attacks the target and taunt.
Summon Wraith: A minion that does leech damage which is transferred to the necromancer.
Summon Spectre: A minion that with each hit has a 25% chance to give a spell point.

    Metamorph – Lich:
A form that makes the caster temporarily immune to magic and summons all minions at once.

    Spell ideas:
Fatigue: A potent debuff that makes the target vulnerable for any attack from the necromancer. One target only. Gives a spellpoint.
Deathbolt: Standard ranged attack. Gives a spellpoint.
Mana Drain: … just … Mana Drain
Leech: A damage spell with leech.
Lich’s Phylactery: Able to ressurect oneself during combat.
Gather life force: An aoe leech for all enemies.

    Talent ideas:
Summon Banshee: Your spectre becomes a power banshee that does more damage and more leech.
Metamorph – Vampire: Replaces Metamorph – Lich. Summons a vampire council to your aid instead of all the standard undead minions. Didn’t work this further out.
Occultist: Gives the caster the ability to gain 4 spell points in total.

    Dragonsworn:
    (Medium) Ranged Healing spec
I choose for Dragon magic, so people can play their dragonsworn caster. Many magics that the dragons use are quite different from the schools of magic that the current casters use.
The reason it could be medium ranged, is that it could make this spec challenging/different or not to be in melee, like paladins could be or ranged like most other healers. Something in between, like 20-30 yards.

    Speciality – Dragons Breath:
Red Dragon Breath: A line of life force to heal allies and damages enemies in its line of fire.
Green Dragon Breath: A cone of instant aoe healing which also removes 1 debuff
Bronze Dragon Breath: A circle of healing that gives all allies a heal over time.
Black Dragon Breath: A cone that gives allies a damage reducing buff (like Druid Barkskin)
Blue Dragon Breath: A line of arcane force. Damage to all enemies in the line of fire. Allies in it get some mana/rage/energy etc back. Gives a spellpoint.

    Metamorph – Draconian:
A draconian form which transforms some/many basic spells into upgrades for its duration.

    Spell ideas:
Life Fire: Standard (flash) heal. Gives a spellpoint.
Dream Healing: Standard heal over time.
Rewind Time: All allies get back 25% health/mana/rage/etc, but the enemy stays as damaged (like endgame last boss, but then a bit tweeked).
Scaled skin: An abillity to avoid some damage.
    Slumber: CC
Regenerative Blood: A heal over time spell that heals the caster.
Ley Line Healing: A crackle on the floor that heals allies standing in it, during its duration.

    Talent ideas:
Memories of Nozdormu: Rewind Time has 2 charges
Malygos dimensonial space: Blends all party/raid members out of existence for 2 seconds , to avoid any damage taken.
Neltharion’s bloodline: Summon several corrupted blood globs that attack the enemy.

    Tidesage:
    Melee Magic DPS spec
And as last, but not at least, the Tidesage. I know the tidesages of Kul Tiras are mostly priestly/shamanic, but this spec uses more the waters for damage and is based on a melee ranged magic user.
Besides waterbased spells a tidesage use all the wonderfull wonders of the ocean world.
I also chose this, because the metamorph of this class will be a naga form. This way people can still play a naga without blizzard need to make a race.
Beside, the many oceanic based attacks that mobs have are not used into the current classes, but we already have seen very cool graphics of tsunami’s and other water based damage spells.

    Specialty – Partial Transformation:
Crab Pincers: Transform the hand(s) of the caster into a claw(s) that does melee damage
Pistol: Transform the hand of the caster in a ranged sonic weapon → google pistol shrimp…
Tentacles: Transform a hand of the caster in a giant tenticle restraining the target

    Metamorph – Nagaform:
Didn’t worked this out, but the options are huge, since we see many naga’s, sea giants and other oceanic dwelling mobs use cool powers.

    Spell ideas:
Waterbeam: Standard waterbased magical attack. Gives a spellpoint.
Watery fist: Onoes….more stealing from d&d? Whatever…. its cool to punch with a fist of water! Gives a spellpoint.
Tidal bore: Wall of water that rushes forwards to damage enemies.
    Bioluminesence: A self heal spell
Exoskeleton: This gives the caster a shell like skin for damage reducement
    Waterbreathing: … waterbreathing…
    Eel’s Shock: A stun
Sea Krait’s venom: A poisonous based dot. Usable only on one target.
Shark bite: Massive melee damage. 20 second cooldown.

    Talent ideas:
Bubbles: Aoe stun/banishment for some seconds.
Jelllyfish Sting: A stun that also gives a potent damage over time.
    Watershaper: Increases all waterbased attacks.

So this is one of my ideas. Its kinda from sketch and nothing is really worked out, but for me the spellpoints, the metamorph and the different kinds magic make the sorcerer a unique spellcaster addition to the game.
Feel free to react and may the force be with you.

Like it conceptually, but it would need a new name, as far as WoW lore is concerned sorcerers and mages are the same thing.
A gun is like a parachute. If you need one, and don’t have one, you’ll probably never need one again.

I think those 3 concepts are just so far removed from each other I don't see how they can all be one class... What would a tier set look like for this "class"? Would it have dragons on it, skulls on it, or tentacles on it? Dragonsworn could easily be a tank, healer, melee dps, and ranged dps class too. I'd rather not have that fantasy be pigeonholed into just a single spec.

This is my take as well. Conceptually, these are very different things. It feels more like the OP is forcing concepts around a class mechanic, rather than designing a mechanic to fulfill a concept.
