It's was 14 year olds who made it up. Just because your 18 now doesn't mean it's ruined. It's the grandpas who keep using it that have ruined it.

The sad reality is that Blizzard simply didn't have a whole lot of games-related information to dump. I'm hoping to be proven wrong but we're unlikely to see the next content patch until August or September.

Look in all honesty, they really only had D2 and the re-release of their old games as "announcements" - the rest was just information that could have been provided in a simple blog post or short video.

I appreciate they cant make a major announcement at every Blizzcon, but this one felt especially underwhelming. And I agree that this lack of real announcements is a factor when looking at the overwhelming quantity of fluff.

You know when game devs release those gameplay videos showing a co-op scenario? Division was a particularly uncomfortable one to watch - not the gameplay, but the comms. They try their best to make it seem organic and natural, but we all know its entirely planned and scripted, right down to what they will all say and when. Sometimes thats what these events feel like - its obvious the presenters really dont believe half the stuff they are saying, but thats what the script says. Im sure these guys would have MUCH preferred to be standing up there announcing SC3, and showing all the new characters coming out with OW2 which is launching in just a few weeks!!! but obviously thats not the case.

I dont think theres room for a person like Chris Metzen to act as himself 100% on stage anymore. People like him seem to be long gone from most game company these days.


And I agree with you - most of what was shown could have just been dumped on the respective games sites. Its really not the same unveiling relaunches of D2 & BC without a live audience there. People already more or less knew BC was coming and D2 was a nice bonus(that also were not much of a surprise).

OW2 was a huge letdown since they didnt really show us much at all. It also became clear theres alot of work left to be done.

Same with D4. Didnt show us much and its clear theres years left to wait.


Personally i've lost hope of Blizzard actually announcing something brand new and huge. Sure, something for mobile and expanding features for current IPs. But a huge fleshed out new IP for PC & console ment to be played for years? Sadly, I doubt that very much.

Lol, kids don't play this game. The average age of wow was 27 back in TBC. It's probably 35 by now.

Thats their new business model, and i think its extremely clear to see - Re-Releases, and DLC for their existing franchises, basically limited now to Diablo 4 and WoW, with some minor attention shown to Hearthstone. Hots was there only recent attempt to push out a new IP, and all it really did was draw from their existing ones, and we all know how that ended.

Back to your OW2 comment, yeah, HUGE letdown overall. But i cant be the only one who sees them pushing the game into a coop shooter with the multiplayer being there, but not the core? Maybe im wrong, maybe im right but the community will reject that idea, but for me thats a really interesting direction to take the game. Considering the huge amount of fun my grp of mates have had playing other coop shooters, this could be very appealing.

I agree. What was so charming about the video game industry is that, for a long time, it was captained by nerds and geeks, people who had a genuine interest in the things they produce. People like Metzen, Garriot, Molyneux and so many more.
But the industry got too big and now we just have some corporate marketing drones up there who don't really care if they announce a new game or a new water heater. Games are no longer passion products but rather results of marketing research and monetization schemes.

HOTS was called by name but didn't have any panels, anouncements or anything. Not sure about SC2. They logos were on the lowest button but all videos there were just comunity stuff, nothing for the games itself.

that there is a whole lot of cringe and unnaturalness on a scripted pre recorded opening ceremony... i don't get it, you can do as many takes as you want or even change the format up if it feels too forced.

afaik both of those games aren't in active development anymore so there wouldn't be any reason to bring them up in a major way. (and i doubt they are starting sequels for those.)

What makes 9.1 'likely' for August/September or later?
Facts we know:
- 9.0.5 will release next month
- 9.1 PTR will start 'shortly after 9.0.5', so let's say April
- even 8.2 that basically had to rewrite whole BfA endgame and add 2 zones was little over 2 months in PTR; from all we know 9.1 will just continuation of 9.0 with tweaks here and there.
- Blizzard almost never leave quarter without patch, unless it's end of expac.
- many people estimate TBC around August (won't go into details here)

So far most likely scenario is repeat of schedule from 2019, except maybe this time probably they at least aim to release 9.2 around December. Also from what I know, US get vaccinated faster than EU, so maybe they even go back to normal work later this year.

Hots still has a development team, although it is apparently really small. They just added a new Hero (Hogger) a few weeks ago.

If we cant use the word cringe, then what word would you use? Someone already mentioned secondhand embarrasment, but thats pretty long. I personally had to stop watching because it felt too weird.... or ... cringey.

How about lame? There are plenty of words that can be used,but people use "cringe" because they think it makes them look hip and cool.
