    Protection Warriors on 4.0.1 PTRs

Is it just me or is warriors AoE threat absolute garbage on current PTRs? I understand numbers are being tweaked but its really irritating, DPS pull off so fast its stupid, I rend tclap shockwave and still garbage. Not sure if my spec is off or the rotation is off or what. So is it just me being horrible at warrior tanks or is it just bad numbers at the moment?

Partly because the numbers are bad, partly because all aoe threat has been reduced to make it more difficult.

Tell your DPS to wait for atleast 2 thunderclaps before AoEing.

Or, do like we do in the beta, and tell them to single target.

Why are you rending in the first place? Just so TC spreads it to the other mobs? Is that even effective?

    ^Questions from non-beta warrior.

My threat is garbage on the ptr without high vengeance stacks, and I seem to be taking 26k white hits in full prot gear that I have tanked ICC without issues in...

It might actually be a combination of you being spoiled from wotlk, dps being spoiled from wotlk and the fact that our dps/tps is low right now. AOE tanking will once again segregate skilled tanks from wotlk tanks. I recommend tab targeting, forgetting about rend first and get TC/SW up, mark a single target, tell dps to single target FIRST then aoe and finally practice practice practice. Welcome to the new old wow.

yes, but it isnt as effective as hoped since snap threat is more important.

I have been tanking since end of vanilla/start of BC, I dont remember ever having this little control... hell I would rather go back to using sunder armor for mobs of enemies than not being able to get threat in 5 seconds (idk if they buffed dps or what, but it shouldnt take you more than 5s to get threat on a single target, regardless of vengeance stacks)

Some classes are actually not "buffed" they just are not balanced. There are hunters doing 12K dps in 5 mans, warlocks getting 20-30K damage with drain soul and on and on. Right now it is too hard to judge treat and holding aggro because our damage is low, vengeance doesn't seem to be getting its full range of motion and most dps classes are borderline broken.

I do however remember having this little control especially in 5 mans. Heroic Shattered Halls, LBRS/UBRS, Strat, etc were troublesome for us if the dps was dumb and didnt give us a window to gain threat. Right now in PTR it feels a lot like it used to back then but with a bit more to do. I personally would like to see it stay roughly like it is, where we have to have some skill (not spam) but just buff our damage and threat a bit. I have a feeling one of those things (if not both) are not where they should be.

As far as getting destroyed by mobs, well that is because of the loss of armor, talents and avoidance and hopefully (fingers crossed) they replace some of that on the gear they took defense from.

well that may explain why I couldn't hold aggro vs 2ele shams and a hunter..

Yup. My shaman, in resto gear and no glyphs is doing about 7K dps on a target dummy. And my mana bar never moves. There is definitely some balancing needed.
