Is there any kind of free trial or something?

I want to buy the game after seeing some videos. Unfortunatelly, I have no close friends that play the game, so it's kinda hard to try and figure out if I'm going to enjoy the game.

I know many of you will say "oh only $60, not a huge risk factor" or "there was the beta and bla bla bla"... well, I didn't play the beta, and this year I wasted a lot on "good games" that made me cry right after (D3 is an example).

I know right now there is not a free trial, but do you guys know if there'll be anything soon? Thanks

    Nevermind whatever you saw before!

I did not see the forum!

But no, currently there is no GW2 trial avaliable, but of what i have played so far it's an awesome game, but the game feels more like how you would play a singleplayer game like Skyrim, but with MMO interaction.

I'm playing it for the playthrough, and not for the endgame (since the endgame starts at low lvl), and the World Vs World pvp seems endless and kinda mindless, and i havent tried regular structured PvP, so i cant comment on that.

    just my 5 cents

I would not expect anything anytime soon. Its still way too early in the launch cycle and considering how well GW2 has been selling so far? Well, there really is no need for one. Maybe a few months from now?

I'm guessing there MIGHT be a free trial when the first expansion comes out in about a year or so. Before that, I doubt it.

Yeah, for what I saw from videos, it seems some kind of online Skyrim. I might end buying it... the subscription-free is an awesome factor.

I understand the programmed desire to want a free trial on subscription games. With a B2P game though, give me a break. That's like saying you demand all console games to release limited playable demos before you decide to buy it. Sure a lot of games do that as a courtesy, but it's normally through special offers like preordering other titles or having an XBox Live gold account.

If you are getting burned with games, then wait longer before you buy them. Otherwise it's as much a risk as any purchase in life is. I can try on pants to see if they fit, but I can't wear them for a week to see if they break or chafe my gentlemen. If the risk of spending money and being disappointed is too great, then don't spend your money. You would be better off putting it in a savings account.

You could check the online manual out too.

A lot of games (good or not) have a trial or demo version. Free of any cost or pre-order. If you're a Steam user, you'll know what I'm talking about. Consoles don't have many demos because it's not that simple. GW2 is a PC game, not console based.

Do not compare games with clothes. You could compare with food, for instance, not clothes. It's like an ice cream, I wanna know the taste. If it's good, I'll buy a cup. I can't complain on eaten food, I can't complain on a played game. I can complain and return a bad shirt, however.

Ice cream is one dimensial and costs next to nothing to produce compared to the sample size. Your metaphor works less than mine does. Don't take things the wrong way, I'm not trying to attack you. I do understand what you want and I'm sure your intentions are in the right place.

My personal stance is that something of an artistic nature, which is what video games are *supposed* to be, really shouldn't have any kind of trial or freebies. Most companies that employ the strategy are simply trying to make more money. It really depends on their product and revenue structures as to why they do it. But to repeat, I'm personally against it because to me, it is like art. You can't read 1/4 a book, maybe a sneak peek chapter - but again, that comes along with already buying their products. Compared to the 'samples' that other artistic products create, having a trial version of a game is almost like wanting the whole game for free without all the shiny extras. You want to enjoy the art for nothing.

Technically they already provided this opportunity with their prepurchase early access/bwe. You had ample time to pay for the product, try it out, and then return it for a refund.

I hope they never do a free trial.. gold spammers are bad enough as they are...

There is enough vidoes so you can see if you like, it or not..

Pretty easy to stop them from spamming by limiting chat (specifically to global channels) features/access to areas with lots of people. It's not as if there isn't already spam from people who have had their accounts compromised : /

nope, but its a brilliant game, even if you dont stick at it forever there is no other game out there that offers this much content for the one off fee. Its huge. Its definately worth the money even if you only play it like a single player game and do what you want then leave.

Not saying its not a great MMO, it is, just saying that for the money you wont get a bigger game or a better one IMO.

It's not like any game in the Elder Scrolls series, it all. Don't let that influence your decision to buy

Rest In Peace, Star Wars the Old Republic. SWTOR is a fun RPG, but a bad MMO

You can rent console games though. PC games are for the most part, blind buys - and it SUCKS.

There's lots of other games that offer more content than Guild Wars 2, for the same, or lower price

It wasn't so bad before all this widespread DRM, but now that we actually have to pay for most games, it can end pretty badly. I just generally don't buy more than 4-5 games a year (which are big titles, i.e. Battlefield, Skyrim, Diablo), and I play most other games with friends' Steam accounts

More to the point though, it's pretty standard for MMOs to have a free trial now. World of Warcraft has one, Star Wars: the Old Republic has one, Rift... etc. It's weird that they didn't do one at all for Guild Wars 2, but hopefully in the future they will. I'm pretty sure there's a lot of people out there who would really like GW2, but aren't willing to pay to try it, since other recent MMOs have proven to be a disaster. I myself was one of these people, but my friend paid for it, and I ended up liking it a lot more than I thought I would, so a free trial has a good chance at bringing in lots of customers

wow a subscription based mmo and limits you in the factor. Swtor has gone free to play I heard and was before that yup subscription based. For those payment models i expect atleast a free trial of some sorts so people can see what they are getting into.

I don't see why having a subscription changes things, in this context. There's a lot of people who'd be willing to try Guild Wars 2, and possibly buy it if they like it, but they don't want to spend 60 dollars to do so

GW1 had a free trial. I don't see why GW2 wouldnt have one. Granted it will be a while till you see one.

I actually just bought the game yesterday, and I'm having a blast with it. Best 80 bucks I've spent in a while.

Well most of us here on MMO-Champion have a good amount of disposable income, so 60 dollars for a game we may only play once doesn't really matter. There are a lot of people who can't afford that, though, and they probably won't be trying Guild Wars 2 unless it gets a free trial, or one of their friends buys it
