I noticed both of my base alternate accounts have been upgraded to MoP for free.

EDIT: Both of the alt accounts were RAF accounts so blackblade may be correct.

Weird timing considering the price drop on the hard copy; Fortunately those people should have 30 days to get a refund.

I have no idea if the OP is correct or not, but it would be really confusing in combination with this sale. Strange. But good for getting friends into the game now!

MOP on release already contained all the files needs to install all previous games. I bought a new computer a few months ago and I only had to use my MOP disc to reinstall everything, no need for my vanilla, TBC,wrath and cata discs.

The problem is new players still need licenses for the old ones if I recall, which requires you to still buy the older games, for the licenses. Unless something has changed recently, which would be a good thing for new players, buying only a single game, beats out buying multiple.

MMOs like WOW can be offputting for new players because they require so many expansion sets to get caught up with the current one. The fact that blizzard continues to merged older ones into new releases of the battlechest is great.

My inactive accounts are now listed as MoP when previously they were Cataclysm, it's correct.

It is still on sale on the Battlenet site and I doubt they would add MOP to the battlechest without an announcement.

Maybe it's by accident? All of my inactive RaF accounts are upgraded to Mists just like OP said, so if some people's aren't it's probably just messed up and flagged some people's as upgraded when they shouldn't be.

Yeah, that's because the world is the world. One does not download 4.3 when they don't own Mists, they automatically download 5.4.8.18414 because that's the current state of the world they're logging in to.

It changed quite a few years ago during Cataclysm, I think. They'd already made Burning Crusade content baseline then they moved WotLK into it during, I think, 4.3. When Mists was around it didn't take very long at all before Cataclysm suddenly became baseline as well.

I completely agree. It's something that kept me from trying Guild Wars and FF11. I could get my brother to fork out $20 and level with him for a month and just put it "back on the shelf" without any trouble.

Guess it's a US thing, my EU RAF account is still Cataclysm. I also have a US standard account which wouldn't get the RAF freebie and is also still Cataclysm.

Just checked one of my starter accounts and when checked for "upgrade" it only mentions going to 85. No Mists on my end. (US-East)
