There are blue posts explaining all the processes step by step and lots of people are still missing the point.
The 35$ cloning service is required if you want to clone the character to be available in both Classic and TBC. You do not need to pay anything to play your character in tbc classic.
I don't even care too much about classic expansions but seeing so many people post fake bullshit about this is triggering me hard.

Hey guys,
I noticed there is a lot of confusion going around about the character copy function. I can see that a lot of people think that to transition from Classic Vanilla servers to Burning Crusade servers you need to pay the cost of $35. The $35 is the price to maintain your character on both the Vanilla server and the Burning Crusade server. You can choose to retain your character on classic for free. If you do not wish to keep the character on classic you can continue onto the expansion with no additional charge.
